Artesanaria was born from the love of a woman who has dedicated her whole life to encourage, promote, and support Mexican folk art. This is precisely what the Artesanaria store is all about: Mexican folk art, which is the activity done by hand, by a person, family, or whole community, which has as an objective the creation of unique items, where personal creativity and manual labor are the predominant features, with the stamp of cultural, folkloric, or utilitarian characteristics from a specific region, through the application of techniques handed down from generation to generation.
The tourists who visit Artesanaria, no matter where they are from, can make a tour of our beautiful country through the hands of its artisans, in a warm, pleasant, and harmonious ambience, and receive all the information about the works including their origin, materials used, techniques, etc. They have beautiful glazed pottery pineapples and copper from Michoacán, pottery and textiles from Chiapas, beautiful pieces of paquime from Chihuahua, incredible pieces of tinplate from Guanajuato, traditional equipales from Jalisco, incredible trees of life from the state of Mexico, all manner of henequén items and beautiful filigree from Yucatán, the famous alebrijes from Oaxaca, exquisite lacquered wood jewelry boxes from Guerrero, and more.
Artesanaria has the most representative of all the states of our beautiful country, from the smallest and most remote villages, seeking to encourage Mexican folk art at every level, creating benefits for the artisans who with their hard work and dedication show us the beauty that their hands are capable of achieving. Absolutely everything sold in the store is created by Mexican artisans, made completely by hand. They offer honest information, fixed prices, and quality workmanship. They take great pains in the selection of the pieces, which are chosen with dedication, always keeping in mind that every piece, no matter its size, will someday be in someone’s home, and so it must be beautiful and high quality. They also take great care in the packaging of the purchases so that they arrive safely in the client’s city of residence, and if the client prefers, the store will pack and ship the piece to any part of the world.
The store is located in the heart of Mérida’s Centro Histórico, across from Parque Santa Lucía, famous for its traditional Yucatecan serenade which takes place every Thursday at 8 pm.
