The Weather in Yucatán in March

March marks the beginning of Yucatán’s legendary high temperatures. While we’re never short on surprises (whether heatwaves or cold fronts), you can expect daily temperatures averaging 20ºC y 33ºC.

March is the driest month of the year in Yucatán, with barely a few days with a little rain; the mornings are cool, but the days are usually hot. Never go out without proper sun protection (a hat, sunscreen, and long sleeves will protect you from sunburns and worse, heat strokes) and remember to stay hydrated all day long.

Events in March in Yucatán

THROUGH MARCH 7: RALLY MAYA MÉXICO

The Rally Maya México has become a must-see tradition for classic car enthusiasts in the Yucatán Peninsula. Now in its 12th edition, taking place through March 7, the rally debuts a new route that adds iconic destinations from the Maya region, giving the experience a fresh twist. Participants will travel through Chiapas and Campeche before reaching Yucatán, with stops at emblematic sites such as Acanceh, the Santa Bárbara Cenotes, and Chichén Itzá. More than a competition, this event is a celebration of heritage, history, and a shared passion for classic automobiles.

THROUGH MARCH 15: CANTERA

You still have time to stop by the Visual Arts Center and explore Cantera, an exhibition featuring a selection of works from the UNAY Colegiadas 2026. The show brings together pieces by artists such as Addassa, Camila Rosado, Galo, Mardika, Ren Sarenn, Ulisses Campos, and many others. The exhibition is open to the public Tuesday through Friday from 11 am to 8 pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am to 6 pm. Admission is free.

MARCH 6, 8, 13 & 15: OSY PROGRAMS 3 AND 4

If you’re visiting Yucatán, a concert by the Yucatán Symphony Orchestra (OSY) is a must. MARCH 7: NIGHTTIME BIKE RIDE

The nighttime bike ride has become a classic Mérida tradition! If you're in town on the first Saturday of the month (March 7 this time), don’t miss it! Ride along Paseo de Montejo, and enjoy a memorable evening with friends or family. After your adventure, why not wrap up the night with dinner at one of the avenue’s charming restaurants?

MARCH 7: MEL CHILI COOK-OFF 2026

This March, Mérida English Library hosts a new edition of the Chili Cook-Off 2026, an event that made a successful return last year after the pandemic. That edition brought together organizations such as the Mérida English Rotary Club, the International Women’s Club, and MEL itself. This year, the event takes place on March 7, from 4 to 8 pm, to raise funds to support children in Yucatán. The concept is simple and delicious: sample different chili con carne recipes prepared by the participants, vote for your favorite, and enjoy the atmosphere. There will be prizes for the winning chili, along with food, drinks, and live music. Tickets are available at www.meridaenglishlibrary.com/register

Traditional Fairs and Fiestas en Yucatan

In Yucatán, traditional fiestas blend elements from Catholicism with pre-Hispanic beliefs. These festivities usually begin with the "bajada" of the saint—that is, moving its image from its usual place in the church to make it accessible for the faithful to view. Days later, the fiesta officially kicks off with the vaquería, a traditional celebration where people dance jarana to the live music of an orchestra. Dancers from all over the Península attend the vaquerías to show off their moves, elegantly dressed in their traditional attire. On the days that follow the vaquería, there are often popular dances. Throughout the celebration, you'll also find carnival rides for children, food stalls, and various attractions, along with processions, bullfighting activities, fireworks, and lots of noise. The following list includes the period in which celebrations take place when it has been confirmed as we go to print; otherwise, the patron saint’s festivity is listed. Check our website for the dates of vaquerías and popular dances.
