In México, February 14 is known as Día de San Valentin, but most people call it El Día del Amor y la Amistad, the “day of love and friendship.” As with Valentine’s Day elsewhere in the world, it is customary to give flowers or chocolates to your loved one. But the more comprehensive name means it is also a day to show affection and appreciation to friends. This way, even if you don’t have a romantic partner, you won’t feel left out. Everyone can give or receive a gift!

For your true love, what to give to show your love and affection? If you are looking for flowers, consider cheking your own garden first…a pretty hand-picked bouquet is a tender testimonial of love. But if you want to buy flowers, you won’t have to go far: flower vendors will stop you at every major intersection in town.

Ki'Xocolatl - Valentine's Day, San ValentínIf your “amor” is a chocolate lover—and who isn’t?—consider gourmet chocolates from Ki’xocolatl, at any of three locations: Hotel Rosas & Xocolate on Paseo Montejo x Calle 41; Calle 55 x 60 y 62 in Centro; or Plaza El Pocito. Looking for something different in perfumes? Check out  Dutzi Design handbags in Valladolid. Learn to cook Yucatecan cuisine together at Los Dos Cooking School. Or book a couples’ massage: Hacienda Xcanatun, Rosas & Xocolate Boutique Hotel, Hacienda Misné, Hacienda Santa Cruz, Boho Spa, or  Tai Spa. And if reflexology sounds like the perfect gift, contact Nena at Konbuenpie: cel. 999 140 0387.

For a romantic weekend getaway, how about a luxurious hacienda in a peaceful setting, a weekend at the beach, or a colonial city experience? Our hotel list will give you lots of ideas.

And last but not least, a romantic dinner for two is a classic way to celebrate love and romance. Yucatán abounds with every category and budget, from elegant candlelight dinners to a delicious torta served with a cold beer. Local restaurants offer special Valentine’s menus and it is the busiest night of the year…so look at our list of restaurants, and make a reservation!
