A Bar & Cantina Tour Through Mérida, Part III
When the heat of our beloved Yucatán begins to press in, there is one phrase that automatically comes to mind: “hay sed de la mala” (I’ve got the "bad" kind of thirst). Let’s be honest—with these temperatures, any excuse is a good one to head out and cool down.
Luckily, Mérida has endless options to quench that thirst in many different ways. We all want a great drink, but we aren't always looking for the same vibe. Whether you want a glass of wine recommended by a sommelier or an ice-cold beer served with your kind of music, the city has a spot for you.
Mérida's nightlife hotspots
For the party crowd: Cotorritos
If you’re looking for a place where you don’t have to overthink it and just want to have a good time, Cotorritos fits that mood perfectly. After years of success on Avenida Andrés García Lavín, Cotorritos has opened a second location in Centro, and honestly, it’s a perfect match for the downtown energy.
Cotorritos has that specific "night out with friends" energy that feels like "beautiful chaos." You’ll find neon lights everywhere, flirty catchphrases on the walls (which you’ll inevitably end up photographing after your second drink), colorful decor, and a playlist that keeps things moving. When we visited, they were playing 80s and 90s hits mixed with a healthy dose of Mexican banda. This eclectic mix creates a space where generations cross paths, but the chavorruco spirit—or "young at heart," if you prefer—is what really leads the way.
If you’re the type of person who says, "just one and I'm out," I’m afraid Cotorritos is a dangerous place for you. Beer is truly inexpensive (starting at $35 pesos), but if you want something more playful, there are the famous Azulitos Cotorros—self-proclaimed as "the most cotorro (fun) blue drink in México"—alongside equally affordable Cotomojitos and Cotodrinks. Prefer the classics? There are margaritas and mezcalitas that won’t hurt your wallet.

Because no one survives a party on an empty stomach, the menu steps in with options ranging from budget-friendly tacos to more substantial snacks (keep an eye out for the queso con chorizo or the papas con arrachera). Everything is designed so that hunger doesn't take you out of the game.
Ultimately, at Cotorritos, the night builds itself between laughter, dancing, and great music. The plan is simple: stay and hang out (cotorreando) for as long as you like. They are open every day from 1 pm to 3 am, so there’s always a chance to drop in, whether it’s a spontaneous stop or a planned night out. —S.A.

For the heartbreak (or just a good shout): Despecho
Sometimes, you just need a place to escape with friends, break the routine, and have a good time without any complications. Despecho is that space—designed for those looking for a "squad" night out, a place to vent about a breakup, or simply a spot to celebrate life at the top of your lungs.

Located on Avenida Andrés García Lavín within Plaza Luxury, it’s the ultimate spot to sing your heart out, enjoy a few drinks, and snack on great food while making memories with your favorite people.
From the moment you walk in, the concept of being "despechado" (a mix of heartbroken and spiteful) is everywhere. You’ll find neon signs with iconic Spanish pop lyrics like "Seré la gata bajo la lluvia" (I’ll be the cat in the rain) or "Te quedó grande la yegua" (The mare was too much for you). The decor is rounded out with giant teddy bears and live shows featuring funny sketches about heartbreak and high-energy crowd dynamics.
The playlist is extensive and incredibly varied. It ranges from "broken heart" classics like “Mentiras” and “Hacer el Amor con Otro” to regional Mexican hits, reggaeton, pop, and a solid mix of Latin rock. Don’t worry if you don’t know all the lyrics—the screens display the karaoke lines so you can give it your best performance. To top it off, they provide props like balloons, microphones, and crowns to keep the energy at 100%.

Food and drink prices start around $150 pesos. They also offer packages that bundle alcohol and appetizers, or rounds of shots if you have a lot to toast to. Pro-Tip: Keep an eye on the screens throughout the night; they often flash promotions and deals that you won’t want to miss.
Whether you're looking for a different kind of plan or just a solid place to let loose with friends, Despecho is waiting with open arms. It’s the perfect space to gather your squad, let go of whatever is on your mind, and enjoy the moment exactly how you want to live it. —C.G

For dancing: La Pulquerida
This bar holds a special place in the hearts of many Yucatecos as a top favorite for a night of dancing and ice-cold beer. Located just a stone's throw from Parque de Santiago in the very heart of Centro, it is easy to find and the perfect spot to start (or continue) your night out.

Admission is only $50 pesos, which includes a beer you can redeem at the bar by showing your ticket. As for the drink menu, there’s a bit of everything: from "cubetazos" (buckets of beer) to national and international bottles complete with mixers and ice.
La Pulque (as locals affectionately call it) is divided into several sections, allowing you to choose the atmosphere that fits your mood. Right as you enter, you’re greeted by the main room with high-top tables and the highest energy. This is the place to be if you’re looking to dance to reggaeton and the latest hits.

As you move deeper into the bar, you’ll find smaller spaces with walls covered in vibrant neon graffiti, where the party continues with the same upbeat soundtrack. At the very back lies the patio, a more relaxed zone playing rock or sing-along classics. It’s the perfect spot to sit, chat, and enjoy the night at your own pace.
If you arrive without having eaten dinner, don’t worry. The menu includes snacks to pair with your drinks, allowing you to keep dancing until the DJ starts playing RBD hits (the universal sign in México that the night is drawing to a close). —S.C.

Brews and Chill: Spots to decompress
For the wind-down: Casa Patito
Sometimes, all you need is a breather after work, a place where just one ice-cold cheva (beer) feels like it’s bringing your soul back to life. Casa Patito fits that description perfectly. As one of the official outposts for Cerveza Patito, located within the Culinary Market of Mérida’s Gran Parque La Plancha, it serves as that ideal middle ground between "I’m off the clock" and "let’s see what’s next."

The highlight here is the house-made artisanal beer. They offer everything from a light Yucatecan lager to styles with more character, such as dry stout, vanilla porter, or IPA. The prices are quite grounded: 12 oz (355 ml) pours range from $55 to $70 pesos, while 16 oz (473 ml) pints go for $80 to $100 pesos. If you aren’t sure where to start, the four-beer sampler is a great entry point; if you just want a tiny taste, they offer testers too. It’s all designed so you don't feel like you're making major financial decisions just to try a new brew.
If beer isn't your thing, you won't feel left out here. They offer a BOGO deal on cocktails all day long. Yes, you read that right: all day, on mezcalitas, margaritas, mojitos, piña coladas, and carajillos. We opted for the carajillos and margaritas, and honestly, it was the best decision we made all day.
They’re also contenders when it comes to food. They have hearty burgers starting at $150 pesos, though if you’re in a more relaxed "snacking" mood with friends, you can order appetizers like sikil paak (a traditional Maya pumpkin seed dip), french fries, cauliflower bites, or cochinita quesadillas. It’s the perfect way to keep your stomach happy while you enjoy your drinks.
The space has a polished, industrial-yet-relaxed vibe. It’s ideal for sitting at the bar and chatting comfortably, with background music that accompanies the conversation rather than forcing you to shout "What did you say?" every two minutes. Plus, being in the heart of La Plancha, a park full of activities and views for the whole family, means everyone wins.
In short, Casa Patito is one of those places where you arrive without a fixed plan, order a drink, and before you know it, you’ve been there for a while, chatting away and slowing down your internal clock. —S.A.

At the center of it all is the stage, where every week talented bands perform sets that transport you to a massive concert arena, all from the comfort of your spot at Disonante (and, of course, with a cold drink in hand).

And that’s a wrap on the third installment of our Mérida bar tour. We told you last year this wasn’t going to stop there… and well, we delivered. But don’t worry, you’ve got all year to check places off the list at your own pace (or not so much) before the next edition drops… keep an eye out for it in 2027.
In the meantime, take some inspiration, make a plan with your crew, and head out for a beer, a cocktail, a glass of wine—or even a soda if you don’t drink—because in this heat, any excuse works. And while you’re raising a glass, make a toast to us… who knows, we might just be sitting at the table next to yours.
