Many people have the habit of donating to organizations or to the less fortunate when they travel. Here is a list of places to consider when thinking about where to give your donations. You can make a one-time donation or be a regular donor. Many of these organizations also have volunteer opportunities.

Support for Mayan communities

Hacienda Chichén has projects that support Mayan children, families, and community needs in towns near Chichén Itzá. They work with Yucatán Adventure, a website dedicated to helping. You can help them continue their

Children's Malnutrition Prevention Program at the Xcalacoop Health Center by donating food, used clothing, or placing an advertisement on its social volunteer website www.yucatanadventure.com.mx. They recently purchased and installed new septic systems for the bathrooms at Xcalacoop Elementary School.

Yokdzonot Community

Chichén Services and Yaxkin Spa at Hacienda Chichén have joined forces to support the Cenote and Yodzonot Community Eco-Park project that a small group of local Mayan women have organized with great care and commitment. Promote online news and articles about your eco-park, and your efforts and dedication to ensuring it is successful. It is a true story of faith, determination, and hope. Children's Scholarship Program

In Progreso, there is a fantastic program, Progreso Apoyo, where it helps keep children in public schools who do not have the money to pay for their studies. School is free, but all students need uniforms, backpacks, and school supplies. The money received from each specific sponsor is used for a student to make purchases. Each sponsor receives photos and thank you letters from the sponsored child. The program also accepts monetary donations that go into a general fund, available to any child who exceeds their support limit. The program began in 2002 and the number of sponsored children grows each year. Students must maintain an average of 8 in school.

Chicxulub Food Bank

This altruistic program is a food bank that began in November 2005 to respond to a need identified in Chicxulub. In this town of 6,000 inhabitants, the main industry is fishing, a job that depends on the weather, and with the hurricane and northern seasons, the port is closed for a long time, and you cannot fish. If there is no fishing, there is no money. Therefore, there are many families with limited resources to take care of themselves. There are grown-up people who depend on their children to take care of themselves and help them daily.

Chicxulub is a Progreso police station and receives funds for its Progreso programs. There is a great need to help people suffering from many forms of poverty. For this project, a family can be a single mother with children, an elderly person living alone, traditional families, and anyone in need.

On the 15th of each month these families receive a food pantry. The bag contains 900 gm of beans, 900 gm of rice, 500 ml of cooking oil, 900 gm of sugar, 500 gm of biscuits, 500 gm of laundry soap, 2 liters of milk powder, 400 gm of pasta, and 250 gm of salt. How you can help: You can "adopt" a family for a year. The cost is 600 pesos per year per family for a monthly pantry. Investigate your and your grandchildren's closets! You can also donate shoes and jeans, school supplies, and blankets. Contact: Tel. (969) 934 0558

Evolución is a small non-profit organization consisting of its founder, Silvia, and a few volunteers. They receive no assistance from the government and the sanctuary actually exists through the kindness of individuals who care about the well-being of the animals. Although Evolución exists as a shelter and sanctuary for unwanted animals, its main objective is education. They promote spay and neuter clinics and programs available to the entire community, as well as campaigns against animal violence and cruelty and environmental awareness.

Protection of Dogs and Cats

In Progreso, the Progreso Dog and Cat Protection organization is working on the construction of its clinic near Rancho San Pedro in Chicxulub. Elderly Shelter

We would like to introduce you to a nursing home in Progreso that would appreciate your help and generosity. The official name is the Elderly Hostel in Progreso, A.C., but it is better known as the San Joaquín Elderly Hostel. There are currently 55 residents. These elderly people are people who are, for the most part, healthy when they enter, but who can no longer care for themselves. Their families, for various reasons, cannot or will not help them, although many of the residents simply have no family at all. Although the house is located in Progreso, most of the residents are from Mérida or the interior of the state. Most have been brought to the shelter by someone, but there are also cases where the person is in a desperate state of need. The shelter has an agreement with the O'Horán hospital in Mérida for when health problems require hospitalization. Between Progreso and Chicxulub, next to Prepa México.
