Amistad Erie - Yucatán A.C., previously known as “Misión de la Amistad (the Mission of Friendship)”, began its activities in 1971 as part of an exchange between the Diocese of Erie, Pennsylvania, and the Archdiocese of Yucatán. Originally focused on fostering friendship, faith, cultural understanding, and service between the two communities, the organization transitioned to become a civil association in 2015, renaming itself Amistad Erie - Yucatán.

Over the years, the association has developed a variety of programs that have evolved to meet the changing needs of the community and available resources. Currently, the organization boasts six active programs catering to various needs, spanning from education to medical care. These include the "Los Amiguitos" daycare center, Estancia Nueva Vida, Parroquias Hermanas, family sponsorship through "Amigos," group visits, and a medical dispensary.

The "Los Amiguitos" daycare center: comprehensive care for the little ones

The daycare center, a vital program since its inception in 1987, focuses on comprehensive care for children, providing a safe, educational, and welcoming environment. This gives parents peace of mind that their children are in good hands while they fulfill their daily responsibilities.

Standing out for its inclusive environment, the daycare center welcomes children from diverse beliefs and backgrounds, with cribs for babies from 3 months old to nursery groups 1 and 2, where children can stay until they are 4 years old, providing care adapted to each stage of child development.

Estancia Nueva Vida: transforming lives through education

On the other hand, Estancia Nueva Vida has undergone a significant transformation to adapt to the changing needs of the community. Initially conceived as a boarding school for girls aged 6 to 12, it has transformed into a day program with a focus on quality education and the comprehensive well-being of girls.

In addition to its focus on education, Estancia Nueva Vida also offers a variety of extracurricular activities, such as computer classes, crafts, painting, baking, music, and values, provided by volunteers and teachers committed to the well-being of the girls.

"Amigos" sponsorship program: extending a helping hand to families in need

Finally, and mentioning just a few of the programs, the "Amigos" sponsorship program currently benefits 84 families in Yucatán. What sets this program apart is its dedication to supporting the entire family, not just the child, which demonstrates a genuine commitment to comprehensive well-being. "Amigos" goes beyond mere financial assistance by promoting the creation of bonds of friendship between sponsors and sponsored families. This human connection is strengthened through regular visits and correspondence.

How can I help?

If you are interested in making a difference and being part of a movement of solidarity and support, Amistad Erie - Yucatán offers various ways to get involved. One of the most significant ways is through volunteering in any of its programs.

In addition, you can also contribute with in-kind donations, such as basic foods like beans, rice, and milk, as well as cleaning products like Fabuloso, chlorine, disinfectant wipes, and much more. Likewise, educational materials such as pencils, pens, markers, crayons, and blank sheets of paper are always welcome to help children's education.

If you prefer to contribute monetarily, you can also do so. Every donation, no matter how small, adds up to continue providing support to the neediest families. Also, consider the possibility of sponsoring a family, an action that not only provides financial assistance but also establishes a special and lasting bond.
