More Than Galleries, Cultural Centers in Mérida

Places to showcase artistic expression in Mérida continue to grow, even during stormy times like the one we are currently living in. Whether you look towards art to find inspiration, a little magic to heal, or just want to take a break, here are three cultural centers to explore.

Lux Perpetua

Let's start at the beginning, or rather, the veteran of these three: Lux Perpetua. This gallery - located in an old Casona in Itzimná - stands out and yells “art!” from the moment you pass by its façade, restored in an art deco style.

Lux Perpetua specializes in contemporary art with national artists. Besides allowing you to enjoy a glimpse of the artists' work, the project has a graphic workshop (Casa Lool) and a residency program. Two or three times a year there are additional conferences and other presentations, always around art-related themes.

Are you in Mérida? Stop by Lux Perpetua to see the works in the collective exhibition "Summer Exhibition," available in July.

Casa Gemela

Also in the Itzimná neighborhood, just steps from Colonia México, Casa Gemela awaits you and yours in a restored Casona. Get ready to be surrounded by art as soon as you walk through the door. Although the pieces on display will surely capture your attention, take a moment to appreciate the decorative details as well (starting with the stained glass window of Don Quijote).

This project is dedicated to the dissemination, promotion, and encouragement of culture. So, if you’re looking to surround yourself with art, attend workshops, conferences, or courses related to these topics, Casa Gemela is the place for you.

Find out more about their upcoming events and courses by visiting their website or social media sites. Remember to make an appointment to visit the exhibition.

La Galería

la-galería-by-la-galeríaNot far from La Ermita, a new artistic and cultural space opened its doors with a very special offer. La Galería is a space that shares a selection of works by artist and illustrator Fabricio Vanden Broeck, from drawings and paintings to metal structures. And if you visit on a Wednesday night (reservation needed), the exhibition becomes the setting for a night of jazz and wine.

La Galería is also a boutique hotel with two independent rooms, a workshop used for painting classes with Vanden Broeck, and a cultural venue for conferences and book presentations. In other words, it has it all.
