When you are in traveler mode you want to take advantage of every minute to know and visit everything. Conkal offers a different getaway with one of the most beautiful former convents in Yucatán, the only museum of sacred art and regional food with a homemade touch, just 20 minutes from Mérida.

You can get there by taking exit 11 of the Periférico towards Motul and then taking the detour to the town. We recommend that you wear comfortable clothing and shoes to start your tour at the Church of San Francisco de Asís. Built in the 17th century on a pre-Hispanic temple with stones and mud, three bell towers can be seen on its façade. This is the time to prepare the camera and start taking pictures.

Popular festivals are held in May in honor of the Virgin of Fátima and in October to the patron saint, San Francisco de Asís. Guild parties are customary with everything and the so-called “flyers” (rockets).

Once inside, as you walk through the corridors of the former convent you will discover that they lead you to two interior patios, as well as the cloisters and bedrooms. It is very easy to imagine the Franciscan monks in this atmosphere of silence and tranquility.

On one side of the former convent, there is also the only Museum of Sacred Art in Yucatán. It has been recently remodeled and documents, sculptures, photographs, altarpieces and archives of the history of the churches in the state are exhibited in 4 rooms. Here you will find a good collection of art with ecclesiastical themes, and you will also be able to learn about the styles of several representative churches of Yucatan on a map that will locate you perfectly for your next tours.

Surely by now you already have an appetite. Take the opportunity to visit the Los Frailes restaurant (Calle 21; Tuesday - Sunday from 12 pm - 7 pm) that you will love, with plants of all kinds, hacienda-type decoration elements, terrace and air-conditioned area and above all Yucatecan food with a fresh touch that will delight your palate. Everything is prepared instantly, so you can enjoy a good poc chuc, some jaroches or perhaps one of the signature dishes; natural waters in jugs, beers, cocktails... Leave room for dessert, since you will love each one.

If you go on a weekend you will be able to appreciate the daily life of the residents, the movement of the market, entire families enjoying the tranquility. You will notice that both Spanish and Mayan are spoken.
