A Majestic Conceptual House: Casa T'HŌ
When the conquistadores arrived to modern day Mérida, they found the fallen Maya city of T'HŌ. The established Concept House Casa T'HŌ takes its name from the ancient city, causing the consumer to reflect on the long history of prosperity and decline of the region. Casa T’Hō is dedicated to returning the majesty back to Paseo de Montejo, the historic avenue which is currently experiencing a renaissance.
Located in a family mansion built in the 19th century since October 12th of 2017, today the building is protected as a part of the nation’s cultural patrimony and is considered a historic monument. Walking through the clean, white foyer of Casa T'HŌ, I feel like I’m dreaming. Breezy green palm leaves contrast against the tall colonial walls as the foyer opens up into an ample central courtyard. Surrounding the courtyard, individual rooms house different boutiques all of which are Mexican, and the mouthwatering, restaurant Aperitivo.
The stores feature Mexican designs, which render breathtaking products.
Casa T’HŌ philosophies
The stores’ philosophies prioritize slow fashion, creating job opportunities for traditional artisans working throughout México. The founders Connie Estrada, Julián Malleville, and Jimena Rosado have the mission of engaging with the creative community, both Yucatecan and the wider panorama of México. They believe in fair trade, just payment, ecological consciousness and the power of good design.
"We want it to showcase the world of contemporary Mexican fashion and design," explains Jimena Rosado Vega, founding partner of Casa T’HŌ. Along with Connie Estrada and Julian Malleville, she established this concept house that seeks to inspire the creation of new spaces that revitalize our iconic and beloved Paseo de Montejo.
Proudly Mexican
The slogan “Orgullosamente Mexicano” (Proudly Mexican) is felt in every inch of this white Casona, located just a few steps from the Remate de Paseo de Montejo. Casa T’HŌ does not emphasize the decoration of the venue itself, but rather the clothes and objects featured by the national brands that have converted each of its 11 rooms into splendid boutiques.
At Casa T’HŌ, the brands are all emblematic, with a unique point of view and a strong Mexican identity. Designers set up their showroom with elements that are representative of their label and which enhance their products, yet they maintain an overall sense of harmony with the rest of the Casona, which is sparkling white, with an abundance of plant life in the courtyard and on the terrace.
In this sense, when you move from one room to the next, you can appreciate a transition in style and essence with each space. You will notice these details in the setting, the products, and even the vibe! No two designers are the same, and neither are their displays.
