In recent years, more and more beverage producers in Yucatán have branched into artisan beer production, joining brands from Tijuana, Aguascalientes, Guadalajara, and México City.

We are, of course, a country recognized worldwide for its beer production. We are sure you can name at least two Mexican beer brands that you have tried! It’s safe to say that the production and consumption of beer in this country is part of the Mexican people’s DNA.

To learn about Yucatecan beer production, we dedicated an evening to taste the ones on the market. You can have “Alux” beer, made in Oxkutzcab, produced with regional ingredients including honey. If you prefer a beer that is on the sweet side, this could become one of your favorites.

“El Jefe,” a Brown Ale, and “Cazadora,” made with wheat, are both from the Ciudad Blanca brand and produced in Yaxkukul: a perfect match with seafood or pork dishes.   If your taste goes more toward dark and intense flavors, try “Cuerno de Toro,” ideal served ice cold. “Destello” is another new beer that is worth trying.

You can order artisan beers in the restaurants and bars of Mérida, or get to know the production process at the “Ceiba” beer factory or in the “ Patito" beer park.

Artisan Yucatecan beers offer a rich variety of flavors, body, and style, at very affordable prices that invite you to dedicate an evening (or several) to your own beer tasting. In this way you can help small beer producers from all over Yucatán, experiment with new flavors, and of course enjoy the pleasure of having a beer. ¡Salud!
