Va y Ven: Airport Route

The “Va y Ven” route from the airport can be used through the smart card, however, as a visitor it is not practical or possible to process said card, which is why the use of this service has a general cost of $45 pesos. The ticket must be purchased at the ADO service module located inside the airport. Its whereabouts are located at: Terminal ADO located at Calle 69 #554, Parque de Santa Lucía, Paseo 60, Hotel Fiesta Americana and International Congress Center (CIC).

Va y Ven: Periférico Route

To use the “Va y Ven” route on the peripheral route, it has a schedule from 5 am to 9:30 pm and costs $12 pesos. This route also has a “night route” from Wednesday to Saturday from 11 pmto 5 am with a cost of $14 pesos. Its whereabouts are distributed around the periférico ring of the city of Merida, however, to use it it is necessary to process the card at the “Va y Ven” offices. The card costs $25 pesos and can be purchased at any of the “Va y Ven” ATMs that are located in the city of Mérida.

Va y Ven: Circuito Metropolitano

The Metropolitan Circuit Route will have a schedule from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. (last unit to retire, with availability according to whereabouts). The general rate for its use will be $12 pesos. Payment for the service will be exclusive with the smart card, it can be recharged at Oxxo in the Metropolitan Zone, which includes the municipalities of Mérida, Kanasín, Umán, Conkal and Ucú. It is necessary to recharge the cards with sufficient balance, prior to using the units, as the service may be denied to those who do not have this balance. In addition to the Oxxo cards, the cards may also be recharged at the “Va y Ven” ATMs.

Mérida has a wonderful bus system – some with air conditioning, some without – that will take you wherever you need to go.

So that you can visit all the points of interest in Prolongación Paseo de Montejo, board the bus 52 Norte Ruta 2. The starting point is on Calle 59 x 56 y 58, Centro. This bus then continues on Calle 56 before entering onto Prolongación Paseo de Montejo.

If you take Route 1, you will end up a little east of Prolongación Montejo, as it turns left at the Monumento a la Patria, and continues through Campo Deportivo.

To get to Sam's, Liverpool, Chedraui Norte, Galerías Mérida and La Gran Plaza, take the buses that go north on Calle 60. Be sure to look at the name of the destination in the front window, and get on at the stop in front of Parque de Santa Lucía or further north in Santa Ana Park. If Plaza Fiesta and the areas before you get there are of interest to you, take the buses that leave on Calle 59 between 56 and 58. Search by the name of San Lucas or Felipe Carrillo Puerto in the front windows. Most buses will also mention the Plaza Fiesta shopping center.

Because Mérida is a point of great importance for the peninsula, most of the towns located in its surroundings are reachable by bus. Check out the full table (updated in March 2023) here.

There are multiple methods of transportation that can be used when visiting the state, among which the following should be highlighted:

Buses are an ideal method of transportation for those visitors who travel with heavy luggage, since the suitcases are placed in a compartment, allowing us to travel comfortably and without worrying about our luggage.

For their part, minibuses are the ideal method of transportation for those visitors who travel “light.” They are units with a reduced number of seats that generally arrive at their destinations more quickly. It is the perfect service for visitors who want to take their stay on your own.

Finally, taximeters, these offer more exclusive and personalized transportation, are generally more expensive than the aforementioned methods, however they allow travelers to make private transfers.

Good luck and have fun! Riding the bus in Yucatán is an economical option and an excellent opportunity to meet the locals.

Celestún, Hunucmá and other towns west of Mérida can be reached by bus from the station located on 67 x 50 and 62 streets, Centro.

There is service to Celestún almost every hour, from 5 am to 8 pm; The trip is two hours and the cost is approximately $60 pesos.

The combi to Celestún can be boarded at Calle 67 x 48 and Avenida 1° de Mayo Col. Centro, Mérida. The units work from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You can board a unit with a frequency of one hour to an hour and a half, it has an approximate cost of $65 pesos.

Bus:

There is no bus service that transports directly to this municipality, for this it is necessary to go to Progreso by means of the Autoprogreso buses, or, travel to Chicxulub town by means of Northeast buses, once in these places you must take a combi to move to the municipality.

It was not possible to locate units that transport directly to this destination, however, one way to get to this archaeological zone is to use the buses or minibuses to Chablekal, the cost of this transportation is approximately $10 pesos, the minibuses, as well as the Buses have addresses at Calle 56 x 57 and 59, Centro, as soon as you arrive at this site you must take a motorcycle taxi to transport you to the archaeological zone.

Bus:

There is service to Celestún almost every hour, from 5 am to 8 pm, the trip is two hours and the cost is approximately $60 pesos.

To go to Progreso and its police stations there are Autoprogreso departures every 10 minutes starting at 6 am until 10 pm. The cost is approximately $23 pesos one way; It also has round trips for around $40 pesos. The buses leave from the Autoprogreso terminal, then continue north on Calle 64, and make stops for passengers further along this street. Arrive at the Progreso terminal (Calle 29 x 80 y 82, Centro, Progreso).

The units to Tekax leave from the TAME terminal on 69 x 68 and 70 streets, Centro. They do not have a specific departure frequency, they cost $75 pesos, the units are not direct so the journey is approximately two hours and thirty minutes.

Taxi site at 62 x 67 and 69, Centro, this offers transportation to Tekax for a cost of $73 pesos, it does not have a schedule, the units leave in the direction of the destination until they reach a minimum of 15 passengers. Their working hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

To travel to Cancun and its airport, there are an abundance of terminals and schedules in which this service is offered. Additionally, you can choose from a wide variety of first and second class trucks. They all arrive at the same destination but some buses have air conditioning, a personal monitor, reclining chairs, a waiting room, bathrooms on board and more services that are normally reflected in the price.

Service is pretty average, but it's best to plan ahead. You can check schedules and buy your tickets online if you wish on the ADO website: www.ado.com.mx, be sure to select the correct departure and destination point when visiting this website.

Taxi prices in Mérida can vary greatly. Taxis with a meter can be identified by the “Taximeter” sign on the roof or side of the car. If you're checking out of a hotel, there's probably a price list. If you do not use a metered taxi, confirm the price to the destination before getting in the car.

If you are renting a car, don't worry, all the rental companies are located at the Cancun airport when you leave, there is no way you will not see them.
