When the heat starts to ramp up in Yucatán, it’s considered poor form to start complaining before May. But now we see plenty of evidence pointing out that this is the sweatiest time of year. Joggers go running in the parks before sunrise or after dark, and weekend fun usually involves either a pool gathering and popsicles, or hanging out somewhere with really powerful A/C. Yes, Yucatecans have mastered the art of staying cool, and we have some yummy reads to help you not just survive the heat, but thrive in it. Take a walk around the block with Ralf and check out Carlos’ tips on how to enjoy Mérida’s emerging bike culture (yes, in May!). Violeta and Cassie offer up ideas for enjoying life in Celestún and Dzilam de Bravo. After reading the beach gals’ sunny day ideas, check out what Jan from Co’ox Mayab has to say about community-run cooperatives. Want a glimpse into the art scene? Turn to Yeyé’s latest about CAV. Also in this issue, Olivia explores some of the city’s terraces.
