"Tu cuerpo partido o veinte días negros" Opera by Germán Romero (Gala Performances)

"Your Split Body or Twenty Black Days" is a bilingual opera, in Maya and Spanish, that reflects on the dispute over land, Maya origins, skin color, language, and gender. It tells the story of a man who returns to his family home in Mérida. The house is to be demolished, and he arrives to rescue the remnants of his childhood memories, a journey that leads him to reexamine his family's past and the story of Ignacio, his Creole grandfather, who survived the massacre of Chancenote at the beginning of the Caste War (Source: Press Release).
