The 77th International Film Showcase of Cineteca Nacional Arrives in Yucatán with Free Screenings

 

Mérida, Yucatán, June 24, 2025 – The 77th International Film Showcase of Cineteca Nacional is coming to Yucatán with 12 free screenings from June 26 to July 13. Films from 17 countries will be shown at two iconic venues: the Cineteca at Teatro Armando Manzanero and the Mayamax Hall at the Gran Museo del Mundo Maya.

Organized by the Secretariat of Culture and the Arts (Sedeculta), in collaboration with the Cineteca Nacional of Mexico's Ministry of Culture, this showcase offers a curated selection of auteur cinema from 17 countries. The program includes award-winning films, directorial debuts, and works exploring social, identity, and experimental themes. The goal is to expand cultural offerings in the state and bring contemporary international cinema closer to the public.


 

Featured Program

 

  • Thursday, June 26, 7 PM. Cineteca at Teatro Armando Manzanero – "No nos moverán" (Mexico), a debut film by Pierre Saint-Martin, awarded at the Guadalajara Film Festival.

  • Friday, June 27, 7 PM. Sala Mayamax – "Zafari" (Peru-Venezuela-Mexico-France-Brazil-Chile-Dominican Republic), a dystopian vision of Venezuela.

  • Saturday, June 28, 7 PM. Cineteca at Teatro Armando Manzanero – "Tóxico" (Lithuania), a critique of female bodies in visual culture.

  • Sunday, June 29, 7 PM. Sala Mayamax – "Bird" (United Kingdom), by Andrea Arnold, an intimate look at suburban life.

  • Thursday, July 3, 7 PM. Cineteca at Teatro Armando Manzanero – "The Hour of the Star" (Brazil, 1985), based on Clarice Lispector's novel.

  • Saturday, July 5, 5 PM. Cineteca at Teatro Armando Manzanero – "Lost Highway" (USA, David Lynch).

  • Saturday, July 5, 8 PM. Cineteca at Teatro Armando Manzanero – "Gondola" (Germany).

  • Sunday, July 6, 7 PM. Sala Mayamax – "Black Dog" (China), winner of the Un Certain Regard award at Cannes.

  • Thursday, July 10, 7 PM. Cineteca at Teatro Armando Manzanero – "In the Sultan's Bedchamber" (Spain-France), about the origins of cinema.

  • Friday, July 11, 7 PM. Sala Mayamax – "A Love Story" (Spain), by Isabel Coixet.

  • Saturday, July 12, 7 PM. Cineteca at Teatro Armando Manzanero – "Universal Language" (Canada), winner of the Audience Award at the Directors' Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival.

  • Sunday, July 13, 7 PM. Sala Mayamax – "L'immensità" (Italy), starring Penélope Cruz.


 

Free Access

 

All screenings begin at 7 PM, except for Saturday, July 5, which includes screenings at 5 PM and 8 PM. Admission is free and access is subject to limited capacity.
