If you plan to do any walking around the city, get up early. It is light out at 6:30 am, and the mornings are clear and deliciously cool…perfect for walking.
Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose clothing.
Walk on the shady side of the street.
Wear sunscreen minimum 15, and a hat.
Always carry water with you and drink it often, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
Do what the locals do…have a siesta! There is a reason why people go indoors during the hottest hours of the day. This is a good time to take advantage of your indoor fans or air conditioning. But please remember not to leave your air conditioning on when you leave your hotel room.
Symptoms and treatment of heat exhaustion: Heavy sweating, weakness, weak pulse, fainting, or vomiting, and cold, pale, clammy skin. Body temperature may seem normal. Response: Move the victim to a cool place. Loosen clothing and apply cool, wet cloths to the neck, face, and arms. If the victim is conscious, have him or her drink water slowly, unless nausea occurs. Give the victim half a glass of water every 15 minutes. Get medical attention. If heat exhaustion is not treated, it can worsen and lead to heat stroke.
