This qualifies as an adventure of a lifetime! Two Yucatecans left Mérida on Nov. 5 for a four-to-six-month motorcycle journey to the end of the world and back: the southern tip of South America. They will travel approximately 35,000 km through 21 countries: Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, French Guyana, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, and Ecuador.
Victor M. Rico Cusi and Alejandro Mier y Terán Fortuny traveled on their 2013 BMW 1200 GS bikes south along the Pacific coast of South America and are returning via the Atlantic coast. At this moment (end of January) they are in Chile on the return to Yucatán.
These two Yucatecan business owners are no strangers to adventure travel. Victor recently returned from a motorcycle trip to Alaska, and Alejandro navigated a sailboat from Tampa, Florida to Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo.
“Everyone tells us the best countries are still to come!” they recently published on their Facebook page.
The pair are riding during the day and resting at night.
Part of the preparation involved going into wilderness areas of Yucatán where they did not know the terrain or the obstacles they might encounter. They learned to ration water, conserve energy, and solve unexpected problems.
Their friends, families and fans are watching their Facebook page closely to hear their news and updates. You can too: FB Aventura de Ruta
