Mérida is a growing city and as such it’s only becoming more and more common to see its residents representing different fashion, art and styles. As Mérida becomes more cosmopolitan and diverse, it begins to show the increasing acceptance and openness of a large city towards its inhabitants. In my personal experience, feeling accepted by your surroundings is among the best feelings in the world; this is why I’m writing this article just for you, in case you are thinking about modifying your style and wish to add a little art into your life, your mind, or even onto your skin! Let me tell you about some of the city’s tattoo parlors so that you can drop by for a visit. All these studios follow the required health and safety measures and are trained in proper waste disposal.
Tatuwill Tattoo Studio
At their Gran Plaza mall location, you will find a storefront which has been turned into a tattoo and piercing studio. Tattoo artists here mostly do geometric designs and straight lines. If you are looking for a different style, artists at their Centro location do realistic designs and at their shop in Plaza Altabrisa they specialize in American Traditional. In Centro, they also have laser tattoo removal service available. If you are looking to get a piercing it will cost around $250 pesos; as for tattoos, prices vary but start at $600 pesos. Their clientele includes infants who are taken in to get their ears pierced, and every age from there on. To get a tattoo you have to be at least 16 years old and be accompanied by your legal guardian. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are 2 x 1 on piercings!

Tattoo Inkdustry
At Tattoo Inkdustry you will find piercings and tattoos including cosmetic tattoos (for eyes, eyebrows, and lips). Each artist specializes in different styles, so you’ll be sure to find something that matches your personality: from cross-stitch to tribal designs and everything in between, including Neo Traditional, Full Color, traditional, and Black Work. The cost of each tattoo depends on the time each session requires, but they start at $500 pesos. Once a month, they have a “flash day” and on this day they tattoo designs which are 10 – 12 cm in size and follow a specific theme (such as Halloween in October, or Christmas in December.) Occasionally, tattoo artists from out of town are invited into the shop so that they may show their work in Mérida. If you want to come in with your kids, they can get a tattoo as well… but don’t worry! They offer only temporary tattoos for the little ones coming in with their parents.
