Tony Romas baby back ribs

July, 2015

If you are a fan of ribs, you probably already know that this famous rib house chain opened a branch in Mérida last year. With the slogan “legendary for ribs; famous for so much more” you can understand why they have followers in more than 150 locations on six continents! México has locations in México City (Polanco), Querétaro, San Luis Potosí, Torreón, and of course now Mérida. The Mérida restaurant is located in Plaza Mangus, in the north part of the city near the Periférico, across from City Center.

Tony Roma’s is a full service, casual dining family restaurant. Since its beginning in 1972, Tony Roma’s has been focused on serving its signature Baby Back Ribs. But Tony Roma’s has expanded their menus to offer variety for everyone; not just rib fans. They have an extensive selection of steaks and seafood entrees along with some original appetizers and desserts. They continue to evolve and their service expands to meet the ever-changing desires of their guests. Tony Roma’s menu is constantly updated with specials, new chef-created dishes, and seasonal cuisines; but the core recipes are the same all over the world.

The first location was established in 1972 in North Miami, Florida, by the founder, Tony Roma. But even with the retiring of Chef David Smith, their original chef, in 2001, and the death of Tony Roma in 2003, Tony Roma’s kept cooking up new ideas. They began to experiment with new menu items, and then Executive Chef Bob Gallagher came on board in 2006; he put Tony Roma’s on the map of casual urban restaurants.

The Mérida location offers a selection of soups, including baked potato soup; side dishes to accompany your meal, including fire roasted vegetables and bacon macaroni & cheese; and a wide variety of appetizers including their popular steak and wild mushroom flatbread and their Kickin’ Shrimp.  They have fresh salads and delicious sandwiches. There is chicken, pasta, and seafood, as well as gourmet burgers and signature steaks. And what about Tony’s world famous ribs? You can choose from the original baby back ribs, St. Louis ribs, and beef short ribs, as well as special new recipes that change with the seasons.

Beverages include a variety of beer and wine, as well as several versions of their hand shaken Romaritas. The dessert menu includes at least five decadent options to indulge in; or if you can’t decide, you can order a trio of your three favorites to share with your companions. Top it off with an after dinner drink, like a gourmet coffee, Kahlúa or Bailey’s, or even a chocolate martini, and you will be perfectly satisfied. And if you don’t feel like going out, Tony Roma’s has home delivery too!
