Each month Yucatan Today visits a restaurant in order to describe what it has to offer. This is not a review; it is a summary of the menu, service, ambience, prices, and opening hours.

The San Bruno Grill on the coast road just west of Telchac Puerto fills an important need in the area – evening dining with good food in a lovely atmosphere!
Open 7 days a week from 1 pm to 10 pm, this small, rustically fancy palapa has a traditional ambience. Subdued lighting, natural walls and ceiling, and soft background music all create an excellent backdrop for the great food and service.
And it’s close enough to the beach to take advantage of the natural breeze. On the wine list they have a small selection of white, red, rosé, and sparkling wines by the bottle or by the glass – along with full bar service.
“Botanas” include an attractive plate of shrimp with panela cheese and an herb sauce, cheese mousse served with toasted bread, Minestrone soup, tomato and cheese Caprese salad, tempura vegetables, and ceviche.
For those who don’t eat seafood, which can be a real problem in restaurants on the coast, there is a choice of rib-eye steak, arracheras (marinated and grilled flank steak), beef or chicken fajitas, and grilled chicken. The steak is served with mashed potatoes and green salad.
Coco shrimp is another attractive and delicious dish. Breaded shrimps are deep fried and served in a real coconut that has a rich coconut milk sauce in the center – heavenly.
Perfectly cooked fish fillets in butter are served with steamed vegetables. The Shrimp San Bruno has a bed of al dente pasta smothered with Pacific shrimp, aromatic, not hot chiles, and julienne vegetables, all topped with a sprinkling of Parmesan cheese. Absolutely delicious! A perfect balance of ingredients – not too spicy – in a light broth with olive oil that serves to bind the flavors together.
The dessert menu includes rich chocolate Mousse, creme caramel, fruit tart, New York cheesecake, and Neapolitan ice cream.
It is suggested that anyone driving some distance should call ahead first – they are open 7 days aweek, but are sometimes closed to the public if they have a private party. Friday and Saturday night can also fill up quickly. If you’re looking for a place to hold a party, wedding, etc., or an evening meal on the coast, keep San Bruno Grill in mind!
