“La Recova” is the name of a beautiful arcade building which existed in the city of Buenos Aires from 1803-1883; it was a market specializing in meat, poultry, fruits and vegetables, and household goods, similar to any “mercado” in Mexico. Today “La Recova” is a famous neighborhood in Buenos Aires, with many excellent restaurants offering grilled meats and fine wines.
La Recova restaurants in Mérida, Chicxulub, and Campeche have brought the best of these traditions from Buenos Aires to the Yucatán Peninsula. Their four locations are proud to share the flavor and gastronomy of Argentina with you.
The newest location of La Recova is in Parque de Santa Lucía in Mérida’s Centro. This park’s arcades were recently rescued and converted into a busy, popular plaza with several successful restaurants and boutiques. Each of the four locations of La Recova has its own ambience and specialties; none is exactly like any of the other three.
La Recova Santa Lucía is set upon the park with not only a stunning, contemporary air-conditioned interior, but also terrace dining with optional kiosks for a unique, elegant touch, and umbrella-shaded tables, too. The restaurant can seat up to 200 people. On Thursday nights the park is particulary appealing, with the live serenade “Serenata Yucateca” on the stage in one corner of the park. The combination of delicious food, excellent wines, and efficient service have made the restaurant popular with locals and visitors alike.
The most popular dishes are: grilled rack of white-tailed deer, crispy rib-eye, pickled beef tongue, and crispy duck with Oaxaca mole and hibiscus sauce.
The menu includes appetizers such as grilled Argentinian sausage, lobster taquitos, and cheese-chorizo fondue; a raw bar including tuna tartare, prime beef tartare, and abalone carpaccio; empanadas (pies) including meat, corn and chile, and chaya with cheese; soups including beef consommé, tortilla soup, and cream of corn; salads including smoked salmon, Caprese, and Caesar; pastas including goat cheese and chaya ravioli with tomato sauce, lobster fettuccini, and lasagne Bolognese with chipotle; and the chef’s “whims”, including pork ribs in a chile and mezcal sauce, pork osso bucco in a beer, mezcal, and piloncillo sauce, and xcatic chiles stuffed with crab with a tomato and grated cheese sauce.
The charcoal grill offers a variety of steaks from 300 g to 500 g, each one including a side salad; and there is also a selection of USDA Prime cuts (250 g and 300 g).
Seafood dishes include lobster, tuna, salmon, shrimp, the catch of the day, and crispy grilled octopus. There is also a menu for children and some delicious desserts to choose from.
If you are a wine drinker, you will be thrilled with the extensive wine list; there is also a full bar, and if you are looking for a refreshing non-alcoholic beverage, the cucumber lemonade is a must.
