The ideal location to admire the heart of Mérida and get a unique view of the majestic Cathedral, the Palacio Municipal, the Casa Montejo, and the Plaza Grande; Picheta is perfect to enjoy a sunset, a drink with friends, or a family dinner, whether on the terrace or in the lounge.
Picheta combines tradition with innovation and the flavor of Yucatecan gastronomy with contemporary ingredients and techniques. This world-class restaurant also serves signature cocktails and dishes that will delight and surprise you.
Origin and Evolution
Two years ago, Picheta moved into the 350-year-old building located next to the Palacio de Gobierno. It has since continued to evolve and has become a point of reference in the historical Centro for locals and visitors who choose this place for a special night out. Whether it’s the marvelous view from the terrace, or the spacious dining room with decorative elements that celebrate Yucatecan culture (such as pasta tile floors or quintessential Henequén ropes), everything works harmoniously under the same seal: Yucatán.
Contemporary Yucatecan Gastronomy and Signature Cuisine
All recipes feature at least one ingredient hailing from the region, and the menu has been created collaboratively by a talented group of resident and visiting chefs. They design dishes and cocktails with locally sourced ingredients, creating dynamic flavors you won’t find anywhere else.
This space features contributions from Roberto Solis, David Cetina, Alex Méndez, among others. The menu changes every six months and the cocktail menu is modified every month, so there will always be something new to try.
On the menu, you’ll notice the use of the local Lima, delicious dragon fruit, ground pumpkin seeds, Chaya, and suckling pork to create original dishes. For example, Chaya ravioli stuffed with tender pork, ravioli with a smooth mixture of ricotta cheese and Longaniza de Valladolid, and vegetarian lasagna. Picheta has also created vegan appetizers, mains, and desserts for their plant-based customers, and they are really delicious!
We have to talk about the terrace! What used to be a continental restaurant, became a brand new space, designed to see Mérida from a different perspective. A gift for visitors and locals alike! It has become a landmark, an absolute must. The atmosphere is very relaxed and suitable for the whole family, plus it features an incredible backdrop of the Cathedral, which makes for a very special photo op.
It’s best to book in advance, especially if you want a table on the terrace. Don’t forget to ask about the seasonal dishes and drinks. Also, ask your server for more information about Picheta, the place where Mérida’s heart beats.
