Culture has always been a fundamental part of the city of Mérida, which is why it was named the American Capital of Culture 2017. Important activities include festivals such as the 2nd Season of the Olimpo Cultural, that will be held from September to December 2016 in different venues in the city.

Dance, cinema, music, opera and much more will be included in the more than 200 activities this season. Let me tell you about some of the events that will take place from mid-October to mid-November.

Let’s start with some of those that will be taking place at Centro Cultural Olimpo: we have a sampling of circus arts with Cus Cus Cirkus, perfect for the whole family, with performances on October 30. Learn about our regional theater, known for its comedy, with “Se Quemó mi Mucbipollo” on November 9. If you are a film fan, every Thursday, Friday and Saturday will offer movies at the videosala.

If you want to go back to the days of the “Green Gold,” visit Palacio Cantón for the performance of the Chamber Music Orchestra of Mérida, one of the most recognized musical groups in the city.

Join Angélica Cano during the opening of her exhibition “Los Pescadores de Chelem” at the Centro Cultural José Martí, it’s always a pleasure to enjoy some beautiful paintings. Or maybe you would enjoy the dance performance with “Cercanas Latitudes” in the Créssida art hall, on November 10.

Most of these events are free; the ones that aren’t free have entry prices around $50 pesos, so you have no excuse to miss this magic cultural season. Share with us which was your favorite event; remember to use the hashtag #SeeItInYucatanToday in your social media.
