On February 1st, 2015, the state of Quintana Roo changed its time zone from Central Standard Time to Eastern Standard Time. This means that Cancun is now an hour ahead of Mérida. BUT they will NOT move their clock forward and backward in the spring and fall like the rest of North America and México; they will remain on Eastern Standard Time all year long. So…for half the year, when the state of Yucatán moves its clock one hour forward for Daylight Savings (April 5, 2015), we will be on the same time as Cancun. Then in the fall when we move our clocks one hour back to Standard Time (October 25, 2015), we will be an hour behind Cancun. See attached chart for details.
