Have you ever seen a door, or the façade of a house and wondered what lay behind it? This happens to me often when I walk through Mérida’s downtown and I imagine what is behind the walls. So, wouldn’t it be great to have the opportunity to visit not one, but seven homes and a special space in the 2019 edition of the Mérida Showcase of Homes. It’s something you won’t want to miss!
Celebrating 10 years
The Mérida Showcase of Homes first started 10 years ago and began as an innovative strategy on behalf of the promoters of Fundación BAI AC to fundraise for the causes they support regarding HIV-AIDS prevention, detection, and treatment, as well as teen pregnancies. They wanted to open the doors of the beautiful homes in Centro that have been intervened, restored, renovated, and decorated by architects and interior designers.
Throughout these 10 editions, they have opened more than 70 Mérida homes to the public. Each one of these houses is chosen by the organizing committee because of its architecture and interior design that can go from colonial to contemporary and includes styles such as art decó and avant-garde. Incredible and inspiring!
Open doors
On November 10, seven houses and one special place distributed throughout the Centro’s neighborhoods of Santa Lucía, Santa Ana, and Santiago will open their doors specially to tour participants. You will be able to discover the homes, take photos, speak to the architects who led the renovations, the designers who decorated the interiors, and with the homeowners themselves. An experience that will surely leave you inspired with many ideas to use in your own home!
The tour is self-guided, which means that upon purchasing your ticket you will receive an official bracelet required to gain access and a map with the locations. Each person can start wherever they prefer and go at their own speed. Take into account that the houses will open at 1 pm and close at 5 pm, sharp. When you finish your tour, you will be able to exchange a drink ticket at La Negrita, Casa Chica, or Hennessy’s Irish Pub.
This social event is a perfect way to spend a different kind of Sunday, which will let you take a look inside incredible homes and support a great cause at the same time. Remember to bring good walking shoes, water, and sunscreen. There is only a limited number of tickets, so get yours as soon as possible. On the day of the event, tickets will also be available at Hennessy’s according to availability.
