Queso RellenoCochinita Pibil, Panuchos, Relleno Negro and Papadzules…there’s some great food in Mérida! The “Ciudad Blanca” is known as a fantastic destination for Foodies thanks to the bold flavors of a diverse regional cuisine. From markets and “loncherías” to haciendas and restaurants whose chefs are revolutionizing the culinary world with their new takes on classics: Mérida is a city with something for all tastes and budgets.

The unique flavors of Yucatán are due to its rich heritage. Here, food uses both local ingredients and those which have their origins in other lands but have been adopted by Yucatecos. Allow us to offer you some tips which will have you eating and enjoying the city like a local.

Start your day with our breakfast of champions: Huevos Motuleños. Afterwards, meet the free bilingual tour which leaves every morning (except Sundays) from the Palacio Municipal at 9:30 am. This tour covers the historic downtown core.

In the afternoon, take a journey to the past and visit one of the beautifully restored haciendas that are located outside of town. Here, you can continue enjoying traditional Yucatecan specialties such as Queso Relleno and Poc Chuc.

Return to the Centro Histórico in the evening and try Panuchos de Cochinita or Sopa de Lima before heading to one of the city’s free cultural events – a different one is offered each night of the week! Finish off the perfect day with a crunchy Marquesita or if it’s really hot, try a sorbet or Champola made with seasonal fruit.

Enjoy your time in our city by learning more about our culture, traditions, and food. ¡Buen provecho!
