Mérida, Ciudad Blanca, in 2017 is for the second time “Capital Americana de la Cultura.” This will allow you to enjoy free cultural events all year long, in parks, theaters and city streets.

Remember that Mérida offers free daily cultural activities for locals and visitors. The folklore, the music, and the dance of the “Vaquería Yucateca,” the folk environment at “Remembranzas Musicales,” the guided night tours at the General Cemetery, the “Serenata” at Santa Lucía Park with 51 years of tradition, the Maya ball game “Pok ta Pok,” the mariachi music at the Noche Mexicana, and the conviviality during “Mérida en Domingo,” plus the new videomappings at Casa de Montejo and the San Ildefonso Cathedral, make up the weekly cultural program that you can experience in Mérida.

Mérida offers a wide range of accommodation options from chain hotels to boutique hotels, situated in the most emblematic areas of the city, such as downtown, Paseo de Montejo, or Avenida Colón.

Because of its location, Mérida is a great jumping off point for day trips, such as Celestún with its flamingos, the colonial city of Valladolid, archaeological sites as Dzibilchaltún, Uxmal, Chichén Itzá and Ek Balam, swimming in a cenote, or enjoying the delicious Yucatecan food in a hacienda. These are some of the options that you can find just a short drive away, allowing you to be back before sunset.

Plus, Mérida DOES have a beach! Puerto Progreso is only 20 minutes from the city, and is an excellent option for a relaxed family day, cooling off in the beautiful beaches of the Gulf of México and trying some local seafood.

Poc Chuc, Queso Relleno, Panuchos, Papadzules, Sopa de Lima. The Yucatecan gastronomy is recognized worldwide. Try a breakfast of a delicious “torta” of lechón or Cochinita Pibil in a market, taste some exquisite “botanas” in a cantina, or enjoy some traditional dishes in a Yucatecan restaurant, after which you can enjoy a delicious dinner at any of the international restaurants in our city.
