Mérida is in style. In few cities of the world can you find so many cultural offerings; historical, natural, and gastronomic richness; and such a favorable atmosphere for relaxation and enjoyment. Our ample variety of services and cultural and leisure activities make our city a calm but also dynamic place, where you will always find something different to do.

Thanks to these qualities and many others, Mérida has been named “Capital Americana de la Cultura 2017”. While celebrating the 475^th anniversary of our founding, we will become the only city in the world to be recognized as a cultural capital on two different occasions.

So we invite you to come and participate! We will celebrate in style and there will be guest countries including China and Italy, among others, who will participate in the festivities with various artistic and cultural events, in addition to the city’s permanent events.

Mérida is known for its community’s and authorities’ commitment to preserving and promoting our culture, that is why every day of the week you can find free cultural events. They are an excellent way to get up close to our culture and get to know our history, regional dance, music, lifestyle, and gastronomy.

Every year we celebrate a series of massive cultural festivals that have been growing and improving, and attracting thousands of national and international visitors. Carnaval, La Noche Blanca, the Feria Artesanal Tunich, the Paseo de las Ánimas (passage of the souls), and Mérida Fest are true examples of culture, people, and entertainment.
