Ah, summer is here. Can’t you just hear the ocean waves already? If you’re already craving a Ceviche feast by the sea, fear not. Even though the beach is a year-round destination for Yucatecans (we breathe, eat, and sweat sand, basically), when summer comes around, vacation mode quickly takes over our systems. Luckily, for both locals and visitors alike, there’s no shortage of beach clubs and restaurants on the coast where you can spend an afternoon enjoying Yucatán’s perpetual summer.
Silcer
If you’re looking for some family-friendly fun, Silcer is the place to go. There are many activities to take part in such as kayak, paddleboards, and dingy rentals. Enjoy their restaurant, kids and adult pools, Palapas, beach bar, and rooftop. Try the Pulpochuc or the shrimp burrito for a pick-me-up after frolicking in the water. Their restaurant specializes in fresh seafood (as they should) with a “Yucatecan homestyle touch.” Do you have kids you’re obliged to keep alive? They have a children’s menu to suit their needs!

Playa Bonita
This beach club in Chelem has a Palapa, beach area with lounge chairs and umbrellas, showers, bathrooms, kayak rentals, and a restaurant. It’s a family-friendly place where relaxation and fun times come together so that the whole family can unwind. Try their Pulpo Zarandeado or the fish filet after you’ve spent all morning working on your summer glow.

El Haguay
A beach club located right on the Malecón Tradicional! It’s hip, the décor gives off Tulum and Mykonos vibes (dreamcatchers are present and in full force), and prices are very reasonable. It’s the ideal spot to go have a few drinks with friends with a killer sunset view on the beach. Lounge in their pool and order your drinks without ever leaving thanks to the swim-up bar. The Pescado Frito and Aguachiles are a must! There’s parking for boats available as well.

La Antigua
This beautiful Casona has had many owners throughout its history. Today, it’s an emblematic restaurant that makes sure you feel at home as soon as you walk in. Picture yourself making your way to Progreso and having a hearty breakfast (Chilaquiles for me, of course) on La Antigua’s terrace before walking down the Malecón and having a beach day. Make sure you try their Molcajete de Mariscos, it’s the house specialty. La Antigua has a pool, a relaxed ambiance, and affordable prices.
