Welcome to this special edition of Yucatán Today, dedicated specifically to our beautiful city of Mérida! With a history spanning over 480 years, it’s no wonder that the capital has countless stories to tell, corners to explore, and secrets to unveil. And because time refuses to stand still, history continues to be written: now that Mérida has been discovered by the global Jet Set, a couple of months is enough to to go back to any given area and find something that wasn’t there before. It’s not easy for our tiny team to keep up with everything that’s happening, but we sure do have fun trying!
That’s why in this edition, we’ve strived to blend Mérida’s classic charm with a dash of modernity, from the mysterious tunnels that lie within its depths to some of the trendiest culinary offerings you can find here. Our exploration also takes us into the recently designated Magical Barrio, which spans across the southwestern part of Centro. However, our journey through Mérida doesn’t mean we’re neglecting the rest of the state: this issue, like every other one, will provide you with all the information you need to plan any trip around Yucatán, including Yucatán’s brand new Magical Towns—Tekax, Motul, and Espita—and many more destinations.
