Although the arrival of spring in Yucatán may not be as dramatic (or hoped for) as in more northern climates, it does herald some events that are long awaited by many. This month’s magazine will help you make your plans.
Whether you live in a cold or hot climate, spring is synonymous with going outside. In Mérida, we have a wonderful custom of sitting on sidewalks outside our homes, to “tomar el fresco” (catch some air). If you like to walk, you will be fascinated by the history of the Maya trekkers.
For Yucatecans, spring means Semana Santa (Easter), and that means vacation days as well as religious rituals (page 5 on our online magazine). And for the Maya, the first day of spring itself, the equinox, has great importance. The significance of this moment in time is explained here.
