What better way to support education in Telchac Puerto than by listening to live jazz and dancing under the stars! Mark your calendar for Saturday, February 18th for the fabulous 9th Full Moon Jazz Festival. This is THE event of the winter season on the beach that brings together three Jazz bands. This year we will have Jazz Project with Nathalie Braux from Guadalajara, the ever-popular anchor group Merida Big Band, and Jazz Sensitive de Mauricio Bonfiglio. With some 600 people attending this festival, the common goal is to raise funds for students in Telchac Puerto.
Located on the beach in San Benito at the exclusive Villas Wayak (Km 25), these three bands with a total of some 30 musicians will delight the audience with their various types of jazz from 3:30 pm to 9 pm.
Co-sponsored by Villas Wayak, Mexico International Real Estate, Yucatán Today, and Telchac Education, profits from the ticket sales directly support 19 deserving students in Telchac Puerto with all their school supplies, backpacks, three uniforms, socks and shoes, gym uniforms, a hoodie, and the book of the student’s choice at Christmas, plus they help to directly support nine students who attend university in Mérida and Valladolid. For the university students, this is a MAJOR monthly scholarship for them to be able to study.
Tickets to the festival are $300 pesos (pre-sale) and $350 pesos at the door. Transportation is available from the Buenavista Inmobiliaria office near the Monumento a la Patria in Mérida, and from the main plazas in Chelem, Chicxulub, and Progreso (by pre-paid reservation at $100 pesos round-trip).
There will be a dance floor under the stars, and the food court will offer BBQ ribs (Pirate´s Cove), Pasta To Go, cheese and cold cuts platters (Le Bistrot), tacos (El Fogoncito), German hot dogs (La Bierhaus) and the traditional brownies (Dolce). A full bar will also be available.
If you wish to sponsor a student in Telchac Education, the costs are $145 USD per year for elementary school, $175 USD per year for junior high school, and $225 USD per year for high school or university students. Telchac Education is looking for sponsors who will make a commitment to their student until they graduate from high school. Each sponsor will receive a photo of their student, a thank you letter, their grades, a bi-monthly newsletter from our team, and updates as they happen.
If you cannot commit for the long term, donations are always welcome, which are used for supplies for the teachers and schools, special needs for the students, etc. We do not give students cash – just “things.”
Ticket sales in Mérida: Buenavista Inmobiliario (by the Monumento a la Patria), and Hennessy’s Irish Pub on Paseo de Montejo between 41 and 43. On the coast: El Bull Pen in Chelem and The Milk Bar and Yucatán Vacations in Progreso.
Note: 100% of ALL funds raised for Telchac Education go towards the students. The directive has no overhead of salaries, rent, gas money, etc.

Would someone (Judy Abbott’s name was mentioned) contact me about reserving a ticket for the Jazz Festival, and making arrangements (if possible) to have the bus/van pick me by/near the Police check point on Calle 27 east of Chicxulub so that I could attend.
