If you are a movie fan, FICMY invites you to be part of an incredible cinematographic experience in Yucatán. The festival’s third edition will be held from August 18 to 24 at Cinemex, Centro de Convenciones Siglo XXI, Daniel Ayala Theater, Centro Cultural Olimpo and José Peón Contreras Theater.

The festival’s main goal is to provide incentive for cinematographic production and to increase the movie culture in southeastern México. The organizers find an open window in cinema to values and traditions from each culture of the world, preserving a space of peace, tranquility, confidence, and hospitality that the state of Yucatán shares with all.

In the program you will find Mexican short and feature films, as well as Latin American and international material. This year the guest country is Australia, so throughout the festival you will be able to enjoy films from that country, and learn know more about their ideas and culture.

There will be different platforms during the festival, with unique formats, such as the Short Film Race or the Jaguar de Oro, to name a few. These platforms are focused on different areas; some give awards to short films or films produced or filmed in Yucatán, while others award those projects whose themes are based on rescuing, preserving and spreading the values, traditions, language, artistic expressions and the amazing cultural diversity of people from all over the world.

During this edition, as in the past, important national and international guests will be present. So be prepared, you might meet the actor or director from the movie you just watched!

Whether you are visiting Mérida or you live here, we are sure that you don’t want to miss this experience. It’s a great opportunity to enjoy cultural diversity through cinema.
