Dzityá’s Artisanal Richness: Tunich Fair 2018
Once again, the Tunich artisan fair in Dzityá, full of tradition, culture and entertainment, opens its doors to welcome locals and visitors, with a huge variety of handcrafts, gastronomy and cultural richness from the Municipality of Mérida.
Dzityá, which means “zapote tree” in Maya, is a small community located north of the Municipality of Mérida. For generations, its inhabitants have been working with stone and wood. Beginning 16 years ago, Dzityá has been the host town of the “Feria Artesanal Municipal Tunich,” offering touristic, cultural and artisan activities, bringing together many different folk art expressions.
You will be able to find traditional items from toys to jewelry, handmade by regional artisans in wood, stone, textiles, metals and precious stones. Tunich, also offers cultural events, activities for kids, and comedy shows for the whole family, including the Ballet Folklórico de Mérida. All this accompanied by typical regional food!
The guest states who will participate in this 16th edition of the fair are the states of Querétaro, Michoacán, Veracruz, Puebla, and Guanajuato, bringing samples of their traditions, handcrafts and culture to the “Pabellón Nacional Artesanal” artisan pavilion.
The annual event takes place from July 28 to August 6, as always in our traditional host town, the picturesque town of Dzityá, located 15 minutes north of the city. You can get there by taking the first exit after the Periférico on the Progreso highway.
More than 100 local and national artisans participate, who will delight you with beautiful pieces of stone, wood, pottery, textiles, fine jewelry, and more.
Mérida and Dzityá are waiting for you with open arms!
Free entry. Free transportation from the Plaza Grande of Mérida from Monday to Saturday 5 pm to 11 pm, and Sunday from 10 am to 11 pm. Parking available at the site.
