La Bierhaus
If you can’t get to Germany to try the excellent food and beer, visit La Bierhaus in Mérida instead. The furnishings, the uniforms, the décor, and ambience will immediately take you to “Deutschland”…not to mention the food and the beer! The ambience is very similar to a local German tavern, and the selection of German beer is impressive. There are also German white and red wines to choose from. Make sure you are good and hungry when you go! The specialty of the house, “Chamorro”, is very popular. This dish consists of a piece of slowly baked pork leg, crispy on the outside and meat falling off the bone. There is also a variety of authentic German sausages. To end your meal on a sweet note, try the apple strudel or German chocolate cake. Prost!

Olé Restaurantería
In this Spanish restaurant, they celebrate “art and life, through traditional and exquisite Spanish food.” The tapas concept (from the sea, land, or sweet) allows you to share your meal with a group of friends, and you can accompany your meal with a delicious house cocktail or a Spanish wine. Try the “salmorejo”: a cold cream soup from Córdoba; it is made from crushed breadcrumbs which also contains garlic, olive oil, tomatoes, and spices. It is often served with other food toppings. There is also Pulpo (octopus) a la Gallega, Pollo (chicken) Rioja, and Salmón Olé; or consider the Chorizo Infierno (Spanish chorizo flamed in red wine). You can also find the traditional taste of saffron in a paella, or a variety of fresh, original salads. A little corner of Spain in Yucatán!
