When Alex Aranda created Destino Merida with his wife Joanna they felt they had discovered their dream job! They would be able to explore the beautiful state of Yucatán and share their favorite travel experiences with others.
They also knew that, like them, many people prefer to be travelers, not tourists; they want to avoid the coach tours and crowds, and get off the beaten path to special places they may not have discovered on their own.
Destino Merida specializes in private day trips from the beautiful colonial city of Mérida that include visits to ancient Maya cities, colorful colonial towns, majestic haciendas and sparkling cenotes.
The tours are completely private for groups of up to seven people, and itineraries are especially designed by Joanna for every client, so that each tour is a truly unique experience. Transportation is provided in a modern, air-conditioned and fully licensed and insured vehicle.
Alex, a highly experienced bilingual guide and certified driver, accompanies each tour, providing professional and friendly service with a personal touch. He also works with some of the best certified archaeology guides in the area when visiting the Maya sites.
Day trips range from ‘Discovering Colonial Mérida’, a morning walking tour of the historic center, to a full-day tour to see the beautiful flamingos of Celestún.
One of their most popular tours includes a visit to the spectacular Maya site of Uxmal, followed by a leisurely lunch in Hacienda San Pedro Ochil, and finishing with a swim in the magical Cenote X-Batún. And then back to Mérida in time for a late-afternoon siesta. It doesn’t get much better than that!
