When Alex Aranda created Destino Merida with his wife Joanna in 2016, they felt as though they had discovered their dream job! They would be able to explore the beautiful state of Yucatán and share their favorite travel experiences with others.
They also knew that, like them, many people prefer to be travelers, not tourists. They want to avoid the coach tours and crowds, and get off the beaten path to special places they may not have discovered on their own.
Over the years, Destino Merida has provided private day tours from the colonial city of Mérida to visitors from around the world. Itineraries include magnificent ancient Maya cities (such as Chichén Itzá, Uxmal, and Mayapán), majestic 17th century haciendas, colorful colonial cities, and sparkling cenotes in stunning natural settings.
Their tours are completely private for a maximum of seven people (they are a great option for couples, families, and small groups of friends), and private transportation is provided in a modern, air-conditioned and fully licensed and insured vehicle.
You can choose one of their carefully crafted itineraries, or, if you would prefer, Joanna will design an itinerary specially for you, so that you can choose the places that you would most like to visit, and see them at a pace that suits you.
Alex will be your driver, and guide for the day. He is completely fluent in English, and has over 30 years of experience leading tours in México. He also works with some of the best certified archaeology guides in the area when visiting the Maya sites.
One of their most popular tours includes a visit to the spectacular Maya archeological site of Uxmal, followed by a refreshing swim in Cenote X-Batún, and then finishing with a leisurely lunch in the magnificent Hacienda Temozón.
Enjoy delicious food (with an ice-cold beer or frozen Margarita) in beautiful surroundings – wether it’s eating seafood on the beach in Celestún, or enjoying Yucatecan dishes while overlooking the tropical gardens of a hacienda – it doesn’t get much better than that!
