Mérida is full of culture! There are many events this month that you can’t miss.
Let’s begin with the already famous “Noche Blanca” organized by Ayuntamiento de Mérida, that will be taking place on Saturday, December 2 starting at 7 pm, in different places around Centro. A night full of art, that you can experience in galleries, museums, cultural centers, alternative forums, parks, and of course restaurants.
As is now a tradition, for more than six hours you can enjoy a program of free activities. Locals and visitors take over every corner of Centro to enjoy the offerings of businesses, organizations, institutions, and artists of various disciplines. www.merida.gob.mx/nocheblanca/
The next event on the list, also taking place on December 2, at 8 pm, is the inauguration of a space for exhibits and a stage for musicals and small plays, by the association Retoño de Ceiba A.C. Some pieces from Colectivo Caimito will be exhibited by national and international artists such as: Dominic Greco, Efraín Novelo, Maricela Salas, José Luis Rumbo and Monika Gabrys, some of whom have more than 40 years as professional artists. A week later, on December 8 at 9 pm, the unique event Cuka Fashion Show and Art Exhibit will be held at Nahualli Gallery, an altruistic event where alternative, inclusive, and diverse fashion comes together to showcase the hidden secrets from society and honor traditions and culture. Designers and artists from the art workshop Bambú in Oaxaca will be in charge of this night to benefit APIS Sureste. Buy your tickets at the gallery. One of the classic events of the season is AANY “Arte a Mano.” For nine years the work of more than 80 artists from the three states of the Peninsula has been exhibited, with the goal of promoting the art and folk art from the region. Among the objectives of AANY is to integrate new artists each year; on this occasion they had more than 40 proposals of which only 13 were chosen, including: Abner Vázquez, who works with iron; Karen Maya, who is innovating with filigree; Fidelia Góngoa, who preserves the serpent technique in embroidery, and many others. It will be held on December 8 from 5 pm to 9 pm, and on December 9 and 10 from 10 am to 9 pm. CANACO Convention Center, Calle 31 between Av. Itzáes and Calle 34. www.aany.org.mx
And last but not least, on December 9 at 8 pm will be the third edition of “Una obra de arte nos visita” (a piece of art visits us), an annual interdisciplinary program that includes an auction offering a percentage of benefits for art students, at Galería Caimito.
