Lovers of local art, get ready for a magical journey! From November 24 to 26, Colectivo de Artistas y Artesanos de Yucatán (the Yucatán Artists and Artisans Collective), better known as CAAY, invites you to an event that will bring together talented creators from Campeche, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo. This annual gathering, which has become a true cultural milestone in the region, is an open window to the dazzling world of Yucatecan art and craftsmanship. It’s your opportunity to explore this fascinating universe!
What makes the CAAY event a treasure in regional art is the opportunity to interact with the artists themselves. Each exhibitor will be present to interact with the public, answer questions about the creative process of their pieces, and share the inspiration behind their works. This personal connection adds a unique touch to the experience; not only will you appreciate the craftsmanship itself, but also the passion and soul that the artists put into each creation.
This year, Michoacán will be the special guest; you’ll be enchanted by the embroidered pieces and wood carvings that reflect the cultural richness of this Mexican Pacific state. But that’s not all: during the three days of the event, there will be a special embroidery exhibition highlighting the regional differences in Yucatán’s designs. You can’t miss this display of our cultural heritage, which will be located in the lobby of the CANACO Convention Center.
Among the exhibitors participating in this event are true master craftsmen such as Helena Martínez, an embroidery expert; Patricia Martín, who recreates pre-Hispanic pieces in clay, and Pedro Mendoza, a star collaborator in the main exhibition. Let’s not forget the various exhibitors from Valladolid, who will contribute an astonishing diversity of talent.
When it comes to crafts, you will find everything, from glass to textiles, filigree jewelry, papier-mâché, and high-temperature ceramics, to name just a few. Without a doubt, you will find a gem that will steal your heart and that you can take home!
Do you know what CAAY’s best-kept secret is? Each edition is unique! Due to its annual nature, artisans strive to present fresh and exclusive pieces. This means that nothing presented in this edition is the same as in previous editions, ensuring a new and exciting experience for everyone.
In summary, CAAY’s year-end event is a celebration of art and craftsmanship from the Yucatán Peninsula, a place where creativity and culture blend. This is an event you won’t want to miss, so mark the dates on your calendar and get ready to discover the magic that resides in every piece created by the talented members of this collective.
