Your stay begins with a visit to Yucatán’s Emerald Coast. Sisal offers activities for the entire family, at sea and on land. Take a walk around the lighthouse and cannons, and then snorkel around the sunken ship. For lunch, try “El Muelle de Sisal.”
Today, the rest stops are the destination. Stop in Hunucmá for a visit of “El Pocito” cenote, and then in Umán for a tour of the impressive architecture on display at the San Francisco de Asís church. Spend the night at Hacienda Yaxcopoil, or at Centro Ecoturístico Xuux Eek, in San Antonio Mulix.
Fight the heat with a swim in the Dzonbacal cenote. In the afternoon, recharge with a relaxed tour of the Hacienda or the cabins, depending on where you’re staying; they both offer charming experiences. If you have enough time (and energy), why not visit both?
We’re off to Sihunchén, an inn, eco-reserve, and archeological site. Here you’ll be able to see birds of every color, deer, and plenty of other animals in harmony with nature. At night, admire the stars on the night sky shining bright and clear of light pollution. Now there’s something you can’t see every day!
Start the day with a tour of the archaeological site of Mayapán. Once you’re done, stop at Tío Charlie restaurant (in Molas) on your way to Mérida; their regional dishes with native ingredients will surely delight everyone in your party. If you’re looking for a place to stay, the Fiesta Americana, Hyatt, and Wayam hotels offer convenience and comfort.
Sixty-five years ago this April, Mexican idol Pedro Infante died in a plane crash in Mérida. This is a great time to visit his monument, museum, and park in the city. In the afternoon, try a signature cocktail, artisanal beer, or Mexican wine while enjoying the best live music at Dzalbay.
Make the most of the wide array of galleries and museums Mérida offers (check out the options on page 28), including a walk down historic Paseo de Montejo. Bring the day to a close at Mercado 60’s newest area, Edén Paraíso, with a good meal and a musical tour of México.
