For David Garret fans, this year’s most anticipated moment has arrived: he is coming to the Coliseo Yucatán on October 31st as a part of his tour Explosive Live!
David Garrett is the “devil’s violinist” of our time, an international superstar who blurs the lines between Mozart and Metallica. Praised for pioneering this trend and his exceptionally virtuoso interpretations, David feels equally at home when he performs famous classic compositions with the top orchestras and directors of the world as he does when he plays rock hits in the most amazing venues. Admired by millions of fans worldwide, his concerts are hugely successful, and has won 23 gold and 16 platinum awards in countries like Hong Kong, Germany, México, Taiwan, Brazil, and Singapore, amongst others. David Garrett brings together the charisma of a rock star with the innate and prodigious gift he has as the best instrumentalist of our time.
David’s unique versatility is crucial: he manages to unite such diverse groups as pop fans, the connoisseurs of the classical genre, adolescents, and seniors, thrilling large audiences like no other violinist. David has perfected not only his interpretations of the wide repertoire for violin of all times, but also his pioneer crossover performances have established him as one of the world’s favorite artists. He has played all over Europe in the biggest arenas; his last tour “Classic Revolution” brought together more than 500,000 people in venues with capacity of more than 17,000 each. His current tour Explosive Live! started in November last year and is on track to surpass even his previous tours, hugely successful, without an end in sight. A few weeks into the tour he had sold around 200,000 tickets. “This tour doesn’t look like anything I’ve done before!” David says.
David is admired by famous personalities like: Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who selected him to play for her as part of her Diamond Jubilee concert. David also performed for former US president Barack Obama, the German chancellor Angela Merkel, and many others.
David is also a notorious songwriter: the album that accompanies his current “Explosive” tour includes, for the first time, 11 of his own compositions. “It is incredible to finally be able to share my own songs with my fans,” says the star violinist. For the 2013 movie “The Devil’s Violinist”, David, along with his longtime musical collaborator, Franck van der Heijden, had already composed and arranged the score, besides, of course, starring as Niccolò Paganini and serving as executive producer, cementing his reputation as the “Devil’s Violinist” of the 21st Century.
His extraordinary and multifaceted talent was discovered from the start: as a child prodigy. David made his debut on the stage at the age of 10, and became the youngest artist to sign with the prestigious company Deutsche Grammophon at 13. When he was a child he worked with such legends as Zubin Mehta, Claudio Abbado, and Yehudi Menuhin. In the culminating point of his career, he decided to sharpen and widen his abilities, and enrolled in the world famous Julliard School in New York, thus becoming Itzhak Pearlman’s student. His first composition teacher, Eric Ewazen, referred to his style of playing the violin as “spectacular and expressive” and talked about David’s “extraordinary talent.” This talent carried him to win a songwriting competition with his “Fugue in the Style of Johann Sebastian Bach.” He has been praised by Yehudi Menuhin, who has called him “the best violinist of his generation.”
After his graduation, David continued working with the most exceptional directors in the classical field, such as Zubin Mehta, Christoph Eschenbach, Riccardo Chailly and Andrés Orozco-Estrada, in addition to playing with world renowned orchestras like the Wiener Symphoniker, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Filarmónica della Scala, Turin’s RAI, La Accademia di Santa Cecilia, and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. Julliard not only helped cement his indisputable place in the classical world; here, David also built the foundation for his crossover career, mixing Beethoven and Mozart for the first time with The Beatles and Michael Jackson’s musical patterns. Since then, it has been his passion to introduce the masterpieces of the classical genre to a massive audience, using the popularity of his crossover programs.
The exceptional way in which he plays the violin, along with his touching interpretations of pop and rock hits, and classical pieces, have enthralled an even bigger audience. Starting with the groundbreaking launch of “Free” in 2007, he has captivated innumerable music lovers, selling more than 3 million albums worldwide. After his success in Mexico, Germany, Russia, Poland, Switzerland, and other countries around the world, David is taking his new program to places that had only seen him as a classic violinist before.
Turning 36 years old this year, he has not only celebrated 25 years on stage, but also successfully crushed the genre barriers once built. Now he is taking his unique take on classical music and pop even further. Answering his fans’ call, David promises truly “explosive” concerts around the world.
What can we expect from his “Explosive Live!” tour? David elaborates, “Obviously there will be many songs from “Explosive”, and also many melodies we have written during this tour, that will come out on the new album “Rock Revolution”. So essentially, it will be a mix of“ Explosive” and Rock Revolution”, in addition to some exclusive songs, and some surprises.”
David Garrett’s exclusive crossover program is presented by his incredible band made up of five elements: Franck van der Heijden, musical director, orchestra director, arranger, and lead guitarist; John Haywood, keyboardist/pianist, arranger, and co-producer; Marcus Wolf, rhythmic guitarist and singer; Jeff Allen, bass player; and Jeff Lipstein, drummer.
David invites you to enjoy this event: “You can expect a good time. Good music. A true pleasure. You know, I want the audience to feel happier, more relaxed and inspired, after one of my shows. That’s what I want to achieve with my music, that’s what we are trying to offer with “Explosive Live!”
