With 106 municipalities, countless cenotes, beaches, archaeological sites, and haciendas, Yucatán boasts one of the world’s densest cultural landscapes thanks to its ancient and contemporary Maya population. Accept that you’ll never be able to explore it all, but pack in as much as possible with our monthly recommendations for a week-long adventure. Sift through the archives on our website to mix and match your perfect trip!
Make a day of museum-hopping in Mérida. Visit the Gran Museo del Mundo Maya, and Museo Macay for some contemporary art. Have a mouthwatering dinner at Rosa Sur 32º in Parque Santa Lucía before the Vaquería Tradicional in the Plaza Grande.
Take a day trip to the Ruta Puuc. Mix archaeological sites with the never-ending caves of Loltún, near Oxkutzcab. Return to Mérida in time for dinner at the local burger joint “Wookiee Monchis,” in Parque Santiago, and enjoy the free 50s style live music in the park afterwards.
Go deeper into Mérida’s Centro and visit the historic neighborhoods of Itzimná and La Ermita (ideally by bike). Between the two, stop at Siqueff restaurant, where Lebanese influence fuses with Yucatecan traditions. Wind down poolside at the bar/restaurant Botella Verde, then catch the night tour of the city cemetery at 8 pm.
Head to the playa of Progreso and check into the Silcer Beach Club for Happy Hour from 2 – 6 pm. Take in the view of the continent’s longest pier, then enjoy a unique dinner experience at Milk Bar & Kitchen before heading back to Mérida.
Spend the day uptown for good shopping galore in Altabrisa, and then head to Mint & Lime to find everything for your home by Mexican designers. Afterwards check in to relaxation station at the deliciously refreshing T’ai Spa. Top the night off designing your own pizza at Radio Station Pizza.
Get adventurous and dip into the underworld at Cenote San Ignacio. Relax under the sun in the hammocks and enjoy Yucatecan food in the restaurant. Back in Mérida, visit Casa Montejo, the Governor’s Palace, and the Cathedral San Ildefonso in the Plaza Grande before a night out sipping cocktails on the tropical patio of Casa Chica.
Enjoy Mérida en Domingo, perusing handicrafts in Centro, and then cruise the “calles” by bike along Paseo de Montejo during Bici Ruta. Visit the huge Monumento de la Patria and enjoy brunch with live music at Sukra. Top the week off with a romantic gourmet dinner at the noteworthy Rosas & Xocolate restaurant.
