YMB Wireless

YMB Wireless is a new Internet service provider based on the beach in Chelem. If you are one of the many who has been frustrated by the hit-and-miss quality of Internet access at the beach, you are about to be pleasantly surprised. Robert Harker, a Canadian realtor and entrepreneur, has invested in the infrastructure required to put an end to mediocre Internet service.

Rob's real estate business was challenged by communication issues. Based in Chelem and needing a reliable way to stay in touch with far-away clients, he sought an Internet service which would provide access to VOIP (voice-over-Internet protocol), a technology which allows you to make voice calls using a broadband Internet connection instead of a regular (analog) phone line. He also needed to be able to upload large file virtual tours and video testimonials.

After investigating and investing in many unsuccessful options, and after being without Internet and electricity for the month following Hurricane Isidore, Rob started investigating various expensive large-scale commercial systems. From this beginning YMB Wireless was born.

Satisfied clients rave about the service. The basic philosophy for YMB Wireless is the same philosophy applied to YMB Realty: "Provide a level of service which far exceeds the expectations of our clients."

Currently YMB is providing service for Chuburná, Chelem, Yucalpetén, parts of Progreso and further service up to 20 kilometers east of Progreso. Further towers will continue in 2009 in the following order: San Benito Beach, Telchac Puerto, Santa Clara and Dzilam Bravo. The WiFi signal is delivered from Mérida via a repeater tower located halfway between Mérida and Chelem. There will be a series of six repeater towers transmitting the signal from the principal transmitting tower in Chelem once the entire network is installed.

The signal is a radio signal, which you receive by a special antenna purchased through YMB Wireless. The antenna comes in an easy to install kit comprised of 4 parts.

Dependability is assured because multiple broadband feeds provide a safety net in the event of a service disruption. A 13,500-watt generator and strategically placed repeater towers are capable of withstanding category 3 plus hurricanes. YMB Wireless buys a lot more band width than they actually need, so the user will not experience any speed reductions while surfing the net, even if all their subscribers are on the net at the same time.

Another big plus is that there is no contract. Switch it on when you want it and let it expire when you don't need it.  Plus all credit card transactions are handled through an encrypted third party financial institution.

Happy customers Marla and George Kostis say this: "In a word, "wow!" With 8 children and numerous relatives and friends left behind in Canada, fast, reliable Internet was at the top of our list of must-haves. We had our Internet service installed recently, and we are very pleased with the ease of setting up our account, the speed of installation, the wireless coverage throughout our home, the ease of online payment (with no contract required), and, most of all, the speed and signal strength...our Skype calls are clear as a bell! We would definitely recommend YMB Wireless." Yolisto.com says: "It appears that YMB Wireless has, finally, solved the problem of Internet at the beach, with a tidy, graceful service that, in my opinion, can't be touched by any other available service option."

Because Rob's perspective is that of the end user, he understands what his clients' needs are: a product which is unaffected by surface weather conditions or network congestion; a service which continues after the next hurricane takes the phone lines down.
