Watercolors of the Yucatan

The Studio is a mini-gallery where the watercolors of artist Juan Manuel Mier y Terán, both originals and prints, are on display and for sale. He will be happy to show you his collection from his travels around the globe, as well as Mayan temples, churches, people, boats, haciendas, marine scenes, and the flora and fauna of Yucatán.

The collection of prints “Watercolors of the Yucatán” includes Chichén Itzá, Dzibilchaltún, La Ermita de Santa Isabel, the Cathedral of Mérida, Casa Montejo, etc. They are printed on Dutch opalina, letter size, which makes them inexpensive and easy to carry…a perfect gift!

Both originals and prints are perfect for decorating your home or office.

Recently Juan Manuel has entered another market which has proved quite successful and original: painting watercolors of locals’ boats, which are delivered framed and with a plaque identifying the model of the boat and its name.

Born in Mérida, Yucatán, in 1950, at age 17 Juan Manuel left home and went to the US with the dream of studying art. His parents sent him to New York to study Commercial Art, which he did for several years. He also studied in the Art Institute of Miami. Today he paints watercolors, a discipline instilled by his father, architect Felix Mier y Terán, when he learned to do illustrations of the architectural projects, not as computer-designed renderings which are done today.
