Pet Adoption of the Week
Every week we post a photo and story about a dog available for adoption from Evolución, a shelter for abused, abandoned and neglected dogs. The sanctuary is running at full capacity and no dogs are being accepted at the present time; however be sure to scroll through the Related Gallery to see photos of all the pets featured in this article.
THE DOGS OF EVOLUCION NEED YOU... Sanctuary Evolucion is a humane, no kill shelter that takes care of abused or abandoned dogs waiting for their forever homes. At Evolucion they have a safe haven. With the proceeds from fundraisers, we have been able to make much needed improvements to the facility, spay and neuter most of the dogs and ensure that every dog receives basic medical care. However, food is our biggest expense and even with a discount from our supplier, the sanctuary needs 5834 pesos for food each and every week – 833 pesos every day. If you care about animals, we are asking you to lend your support and become a monthly food donor. 900 pesos feeds 6 dogs -- 300 pesos feeds 2 dogs -- 150 pesos feeds 1 dog! DONATING TO EVOLUCION EVERY MONTH IS EASY, HERE’S HOW:
· Set up an automatic monthly direct deposit to Evolucion’s Banamex Account - Evolucion Kuuch utia al alab ool A.C. Number : CLABE : 002910700038253518 or
· Go to http://www.Evolucionyucatan.com and donate online, or
· If you live in Merida and would like to make a cash donation, please email kenandpatricia@hotmail.com
EVOLUCIÓN ANIMAL SHELTER NEEDS QUARANTINE UNIT
Evolucion urgently needs a dedicated, "veterinary-approved" Quarantine Facility to isolate new arrivals, dogs recovering from surgery and dogs with infectious diseases from the dogs that are ready for adoption. This is a significant undertaking as we need to raise 58,000 pesos (approx. $5,000 USD) on top of covering day-to-day expenses. So far we have 11,000 pesos ($900 USD) in donations which will allow us to begin construction but our target is to complete the project before the end of October, 2011. HOW YOU CAN HELP… Purchase a building block for 200, 300, 400 or 500 pesos ($15,$25,$30 or $40 USD). Go to http://www.Evolucionyucatan.com to donate online, or, if you live in the Yucatan, do you have building materials lying around that you can donate - cement, sand, gravel, blocks, rebar, exterior door, windows, chain-link fencing? Please telephone Patricia @ 9999 55 37 00 to make arrangements for pick up. Block-by-Block we can do this with your help. Your contribution will be acknowledged on the Quarantine Donor Board. Being in the “Dog House” isn’t always a bad thing!

Stephie, Nov. 15, 2010:
Hola mis amigos! I am Stephie! I am big and strong and, while I may look intimidating, I am actually very sweet and shy. I have been at Sanctuary Evolución for 3 years…actually, I was born here. You see, my mother was brought to the Sanctuary when she was pregnant and very skinny and rescued off the streets. She gave birth to me and my 3 siblings, but they have since been adopted. I am here still waiting for my forever home. I am spayed and have had all my shots. If you are interested in me, or any of the dogs at Sanctuary Evolución, please contact Jill Benson at 9991-43-47-11 or email at info@evolucionyucatan.com

Rambo, Nov. 8, 2010:
Hi my friends! I am Rambo! I was hit by a car and my paw was crushed in the accident. But I’m doing ok now. I have a strong personality – that’s why they call me
Rambo! I don’t always get along with other male dogs, but I love female dogs and people. I am about 4 years old, have had all my shots and have been neutered. Now, I am just looking for my forever home! If you are interested in me, Rambo, or any of the dogs at Sanctuary Evolución, please contact Jill Benson at 9991-43-47-11 or email at info@evolucionyucatan.com

Snoopy, Nov. 1, 2010:
Hola mis amigos! Today’s Pet of the Week is a very special one! Meet Snoopy! Snoopy has been with Silvia Cortes at Sanctuary Evolución longer than any other dog – 9 years. He was actually born at Silvia’s home. You see, Snoopy’s mother was the seventh dog Silvia Cortes had picked up at of the streets when she first began to rescue dogs some 9 years ago. Snoopy’s mother was pregnant and in terrible condition. She was extremely thin, but managed to give birth to healthy puppies. All were adopted with the exception of Snoopy. Snoopy has made his home with Silvia at Evolución and this is the only home he has ever known. However, a loving family could provide him with more attention as he so richly deserves. If you are interested in Snoopy, or any of the dogs at Sanctuary Evolución, please contact Jill Benson at 9991-43-47-11 or email at info@evolucionyucatan.com

Phoebe, Oct. 18, 2010:
Hi my friends! I’m Phoebe and I am ready to be adopted! I came to Sanctuary Evolución in the middle of the night when someone literally threw me over the wall and into the sanctuary. I was quite afraid at first, but I soon realized I was in a good place. I am about a year old, maybe a little less and I just live to play! I love other dogs, kids and people and I would make the perfect pet for a loving family! For more information, contact Jill at 9991-43-47-11, or email info@evolucionyucatan.com

Picheto, Sep. 6, 2010:
Hi! My name is Picheto! I am very friendly, I love to play and I love to be with people. I was found about 6 months ago in Centro in a neighborhood called “Pasaje Picheta”….hence my name Picheto! I was very hungry and a kind person found me and brought me to Sanctuary Evolución. I love my other dog friends here, but what I really want is my forever home. I have had all my shots and have been neutered. So come see me! For more information, contact Silvia at 9991-93-06-28 or Jill at 9991-43-47-11, or email Jill at snjbenson@yahoo.com

Chino, August 9, 2010:
Hi! I'm Chino! Check out how cute and friendly I am. I was owned at one time, but unfortunately I had a lot of ticks, so the owners decided they didn't want me anymore. Instead of trying to find me a new home, they tied me to a tree in the median of the road in front of their house. I was there without food and water until a kind person came by and rescued me. I have been at Sanctuary Evolución ever since and now am just looking for my forever home. I am about 3-4 years old, I am neutered and have had all my shots. For more information, contact Silvia at 9991-93-06-28 or Jill at 9991-43-47-11, or email Jill at snjbenson@yahoo.com

I am from Louisiana--every day I see a dog here that needs help--yesterday I finally stopped to retrieve one from the middle of the highway-tiny but friendly and still feisty despite her size and neglect -just a few months old
I lost my mom in april and this puppy has blue eyes just like my mom--Ifelt it was an omen-- had to take her home --I have 2 grown dogs that are ready to eat her for lunch so I may have to find her a place to hang her hat--right now she is at the vet --mucho ticks--I am so glad there are people out there who care
