Directions to airport from Progreso

Am trying to find directions from Progreso to the Merida airport. I have a friend coming in and would like to be able to find the airport! Mapquest does not seem to have the directions - I need directions in English please!!

02.

re. directions

Hola, from Progreso heading towards Merida, just before you enter the city you will turn right on the Periferico (ring road) (the signs will direct you to Celestun and/or Campeche) and follow it down to the south end of the city. Look for the exit to Uman (going south) but GO IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION going north (you will pass UNDER the overpass). You should now be on Av. Aviación and you will look for the airport on your right hand side. Here is our map.

03.

Travel

What is the easiest and best way to travel to Campeche from the airport in Merida? Is there public transportation? Do you know where you catch the public transportation and how you find out the times they go there?

04.

re. travel

The easiest way would be to take a taxi from Merida airport to the "CAME" bus depot on Calle 70 between 69 and 71 (there is another bus terminal right across the street, so be sure you go to CAME.) There are buses every half hour or so from Merida CAME to Campeche. Fares are either 152 pesos or 180 pesos (first class and deluxe) for the 2 hr. 20 min. trip. Schedules: http://www.ticketbus.com.mx/wtbkd/index.jsp

There is public transportation in Merida from the airport to the bus depot, but you have to walk from the airport terminal out to the main road to catch a city bus...a long walk...and then ask all the passing buses if they go to CAME. Take a taxi instead.

13.

Flights from Cancun to Merida besides Mayair

Is there another airline besides Mayair that fly between Cancun and Merida without any stops. Our flight arrives in Cancun at 4pm so it would have to be later then 4pm.
Thanks

14.

re. mayair

No there isn't...you will either have to overnight in Cancun, rent a car, or take the bus. Click here for more info.

Cab from Merida airport to Celestun

Are vans available at the airport to take us to Celestun when we arrive on a 930pm flight from Houston? Does anyone know how much and if there is a way to reserve one in advance? Also, should we be concerned about making the drive at that time of night? Thank you!

16.

re. cab merida - celestun

Yes, cars and vans are available. Taxi for up to 4 pax: 1150 pesos. Van for up to 7 pax: 1500 pesos. You can reserve by calling 999 946 1529. Ask for Carlos Medina, but he does not speak much English. The drive should be OK at night, I wouldn't suggest it if you are renting a car and driving on unfamiliar roads, but a taxi driver will have no problem. You can also reserve transport with:

and

Taxi

Thank you very much, Juanita!

18.

Another question about cab to Celestun

I should have asked if it's also possible to walk out to the taxi stand at the airport and hire a cab to Celestun or is it further than they might like to go? Thanks!

19.

re. another question

I should have told you! You just walk out the door at the arrivals level and go to the taxi booth which is right there. You can't miss it. Car taxis are always available, but if you need a van it might be necessary to call and reserve a day or 2 in advance.

early morning transport to Merida aiport from Merida Santiago

My Spanish is not so good and i need to reserve a taxi for an early morning flight. Is there a number to call where I can speak with an English speaking person? Thanks

24.

English Speaking Restaruants

I am planning to be in Merida from 01/17/2012 till 01/21/2012 on a business trip. I would like to know if there any vegetaraian restruants? I also want to know the difficulty of communication as I don't know spanish.
Thanks!

26.

re. english speaking restaurants

Here are a couple of places that offer lots of vegetarian options:

http://yucatantoday.com/en/restaurants/100-natural
http://yucatantoday.com/en/restaurants/amaro

FYI, Yucatecan cuisine is pretty meat-oriented, but you don't have to limit yourself to just the above 2 places to eat. Any other international restaurant will have veggie options, our whole list is here: http://yucatantoday.com/en/restaurants

Re. lack of Spanish: lots of people in the tourism industry here speak English and they want to help you! Bring along a phrase book and you'll be fine.

27.

Road/Driving signs

Thank you. One more question.

Thanks
drew

28.

re. road/driving signs

Driving is similar but the signs are in Spanish.

Airport Opening Time

I have a 7AM Continental flight to Houston from MID - at what time does the airport open for checkin?

30.

re. airport opening time

You can check in as early as 5 am.

31.

Thank You

That was most helpful. I was researching this and I found a mixture of information, from the airport being open 24 hours to not having it open until 7AM, which would be way too late for an International flight leaving at 7AM!

BTW: Even SFO isn't open for check in 24 hours! I had to wait until 5:30AM to be able to go through security for a 7AM flight.

32.

re. thank you

I have taken this flight to Houston a dozen times and I usually arrive around 5.30 am, and there is already a check-in process which is well underway. If the airline tells you to arrive 2 hours ahead of time, there will be people there to check you in!
