Handcrafts
The Yucatán offers many handcrafts by local artesanos as well as imports from Chiapas, Oaxaca, Guatemala and other locations. Here you can find the finest hammocks in the world, detailed carvings of ancient Mayan sculptures, works of silver and pewter, and many other unique treasures. To help get you started, here are some of the best places to find that something special.

CURIOS LUCY, Second floor of the Municipal Market Lucas de Galvez is the only market open 365 days a year. Tel: 01(999) 923 7491, 928 6390, Fax: 928 6538. You can also enjoy their restaurant, with typical Yucatecan food, open from 8 am to 10 pm (Accepts credit cards).

In addition, there are many street vendors selling handcrafts in the main plaza, every Sunday. Also, Hotel Medio Mundo, Hotel Casa San Angel, Luz en Yucatan, Hacienda Temozon, Hacienda Chichén, Hacienda Ochil and many other hotels and haciendas sell hand-picked handcrafts in their offices and gift shops. Another good place to find handcrafts, especially from Chiapas, is on the south side of the Teatro Peon Contreras, on Calle 60 between Calle 57 and 59 in the Parque de la Maternidad every evening. On Saturday nights, local artisans set up booths at the south end of Paseo de Montejo. You can shop there and listen to live music at the Noche Mexicana, beginning at about 9 pm.
