Hanal Pixan at Hacienda Kaua
One of the most interesting festivities of the Yucatecan people is the “Day of the Dead” which maintains a magic-religious meaning for all the indigenous peoples of Mexico.
The current cult of the dead is a result of the blending of ancestral indigenous religious rites with the medieval concept of death brought by the Spaniards during the conquest and transmitted to the indigenous peoples through evangelization.
The Mayas believed in absolute immortality of the soul, and therefore they created a series of worlds where the dead would go, according to their destinies.
Today we are trying to preserve the history, culture, and traditions of the Mayas in Merida.
During the month of November at Hacienda Kaua, together with Carnavalito and La Chopería, for the first time a unique tour will be offered that includes a visit to the statue of the Mexican acting and singing idol Pedro Infante, followed by a visit to the “Yucatecan Necropolis” (General Cemetery) where you will see majestic mausoleums, sculptures and carved marble tombstones dating from the end of the XIX century. For this reason, it has been proposed to include it as part of our Cultural Heritage.
The tour will finish at Hacienda Kaua with a prehispanic theatrical show about Hanal Pixan (the meal of the souls), which will include the participation of high caliber and experienced artists and dancers.
Special performances October 31, November 1 and 2. Continuing Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in November and the first week of December.
