Grupo ADO Route to Belize

ADO has opened a new bus route to Belize, providing new tourism and business opportunities.

Since Aug. 25, 2011, and after two and a half years of negotiations to comply with necessary regulations, Grupo ADO established non-stop routes from both Mérida and Cancún, with Belize City, the most important urban area of that Central American country.

From Mérida the trip takes 8 and a half hours to reach Belize City, the old capital of that country, passing by Corozal and Orange Walk. This new route makes the connection between the two cities faster and much more comfortable. Before this route began, you had to go to Chetumal and then change buses in order to reach your final destination. The waiting time to change buses was long and uncomfortable.

With this new route, you can enjoy the attractions of our southern neighbor, in the comfort that characterizes Grupo ADO. On the way to Belize City, passengers will find two attractive destinations.

Corozal and Orange Walk Districts

Corozal blends the best of the Mestiza, Mayan, and Mexican traditions, with the attraction of the serenity of this paradise tucked away from the conventional tourist routes. Visitors to this district have access to the Zona Libre (free zone) in which you can find an impressive variety of stores offering the best brands from around the world, at true bargains.

The town of Orange Walk is an important agricultural center and the departure point for the boat excursion to the archaeological zone of Lamanai, near Río Nuevo (New River). The route through the tributary takes you through dense vegetation, where you can observe the diverse fauna of the region.

Belize City

The old capital of Belize, located on the Caribbean coast, was founded 300 years ago and is the hub of the country’s commercial activities. It has about 80,000 inhabitants, which makes it the largest urban area of the country. Its buildings are a blend of colonial architecture, wood buildings, and old religious enclosures. There are interesting sights within the city, including the Anglican cathedral of St. John’s, the oldest in Latin America; the British governor’s residence (built in 1814), the Cultural House, and the Fort George lighthouse.

The journey is made on a first class Mercedez Benz bus, with air conditioning, reclining seats, and TVs with movies. Passengers have the option of getting off at Corozal and Orange Walk. To enter Belize a passport is required, but not a visa.
