First World Cochinita Contest

The First World Cochinita Contest was a success! It was held at 11:00 am, December 5, 2009, Hacienda San Pedro Ochil, km. 176.5 Mérida-Uxmal Hwy., Abalá, Yucatán, Mexico.

THE RULES AND REGULATIONS WERE:
Register before Nov. 30 at Hacienda Ochil. Tel. 999 924 7465, Cel. 999 101 9065, email ochil@thehaciendas.com
Pay the registration fee of $500 pesos. (Banamex Account 6155307 in the name of Grupo Plan Planificación, SA de CV)
Be at the Hacienda Ochil no later than 10 am on December 5.
Bring a minimum of 20 kg. of cochinita, cooked and ready to eat.
Bring the detailed recipe to be published in the media.
Each contestant could have a maximum of 2 helpers.
There was a stand for each contestant, salsa, garnishes, plates, etc.
Limited space.
(Out of town participants could contact Monserrat Dorantes for help with accommodation, transport, etc.)

PRIZES:
First prize: $30,000 pesos, trophy, diploma, and the title BEST COCHINITA IN THE WORLD. Winner: RAMIRO COBA CAAMAL.
Second prize: $15,000 pesos, trophy, and diploma. Winner: ENRIQUE PASOS CASTILLO, "LAS DOS LUPITAS".
Third prize: $5000 pesos, trophy, and diploma. Winner: SILVIO CAMPOS MEX.
All participants received a certificate-diploma of participation and a contest bracelet.

VOTING:
There were two rounds. The first round was the popular vote. With each ticket sold, there was one vote, which was deposited in the urns before 2:30 pm. The 10 participants with the most votes passed to the second round to be graded by the judges who determined the winners.

INVITATION TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC:
The entry had a cost of 100 pesos per adult, and 50 pesos per child under 12. There was music, prizes, and gifts.
