Duck Hunting in the Yucatán

Duck hunting in the Yucatán is good! With a duck season that opens in December and runs for 120 days through to April, you are sure to have a spectacular time at Yucatán Adventour Sisal Lodge. This brand-new operation is located on the sandy beaches of the northern Yucatán Peninsula, near Mérida, in the sleepy port village of Sisal. The traditional package is 4 nights/3 days. There are also 3 night, 2 night and 1 night options.

On arrival night you will receive an orientation and choose your shotguns. Choices are new 12-gauge Benellis, 20-gauge Brownings and 410 Remingtons. 
Your day will start with a 3:30 am wake-up call followed by a light breakfast of fruit, cereal, muffins and coffee. You will be out the door with your experienced guides and into the well-equipped trucks by 5:00 am. Drive times are short, ranging from 5 to 60 minutes with the average being less than 30.

The hunts take place in the shallow-water estuaries that make up the area. Natural blinds are carved into the dense mangrove thickets that provide the perfect cover. Shooters watch over a large spread of decoys while the guides diligently work the duck calls. Teal is the primary quarry; however, the duck population is very diverse with about 20 different species, five of which are exclusive to the Yucatán. 
You will be back to the Lodge by 11 am where you will be received with a frosty Margarita and a satisfying snack, then have time to swim in the pool and take a siesta. You will be served lunch and then have an afternoon activity which could be dove hunting or sport fishing. The cooks will prepare your catch in a variety of delicious dishes.

There are also options for non-hunting spouses, families and/or guests that include trips to nearby Merida, a 465 year old colonial city, for shopping or a city tour, excursions to the Mayan pyramids of Chichen Itza or Uxmal, visits to grand haciendas, wetlands photo tours, sport fishing, or bird watching where you will see huge colonies of flamingos. Transportation is provided in comfortable club vans by English-speaking guides.

With various options available, you can choose from 1-night/1-day hunts up to 4-night/3-day itineraries. The rate for a 3-day/4-night hunt is $3650 US per/person, with literally everything included, even beer and wine. They also have non-hunter rates for spouses and friends.

Yucatan Adventour Sisal Lodge is a serious company that respects the number of ducks that can be hunted (15 per hunter per day), respects schedules, and the environment. They get the permits and provide the shotguns so all you have to do is bring your clothes.

The main lodge is a private house located on the beautiful beaches of the Yucatán. The newly renovated residence is fully staffed with cooks, maids, and servers, and houses up to 8 hunters comfortably.

Groups of six or more guarantee exclusive use of the facilities. Amenities at The Lodge include the four bedrooms (two double beds in each), four full bathrooms, satellite TV, DVD, IPOD adaptor, stereo system, Internet, pool, and a thatched roof palapa on the beach.

Sisal Lodge is also available for rent by the weekend, week or month during the off-season period of April to October. This is the perfect place for Easter weeks (Semana Santa) and Yucatecan summertime (temporada.) Fully staffed, you will have no worries or work to do while on vacation. Once again, all you have to do is bring your clothes.
