Chichen Itza Real Estate

Chichén Itzá has long been a favorite for those visiting Mayan archaeological sites, but since July 7, 2007, when it was designated one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, many are thinking of tourism investments in the area. What are the options?

According to Mexico City native Teresa Moreno, realtor and owner of Chichén Itzá Real Estate, there are many opportunities for growth in the region. She specializes in land, farms, ranches, homes, hotels and haciendas in the Chichén Itzá area, only minutes from the archaeological site and from Chichén Itzá International Airport.

Most people who visit the archaeological site of Chichén Itzá are based in Mérida and go on a day tour. However, there are several hotels in the area, and those who are seeking a more relaxed journey, and a more complete Mayan cultural experience, are choosing to spend a couple of nights there. These tourists are often looking for eco-hotels, and Moreno believes there is opportunity for more development of that kind. (In fact, she owns a 31-hectare piece of land and is looking for investors to build an eco-lodge there.)

Most realtors in Yucatán specialize in city homes in Mérida, haciendas in the surrounding area, and beach homes on the Gulf coast. Teresa has found a unique niche in Chichén Itzá real estate.

She is representing land ranging from 20 to 500 hectares in size, with cenotes, jungle, and fertile land, suitable for eco-tourism accommodation, organic farm, green park, commercial projects, or residential or retirement communities. Much of this planted land is truly "green", never touched by pesticides, fertilizers or chemicals. She also represents a beautiful ten-year old home only 1 km. from Chichén Itzá, with lovely yards and amazing fruit trees.
